We stopped in Cheddar to look around, and we found this place to grab some lunch. It was empty, but the staff was really nice, and smiley. We had beer and cider. We ordered onion rings, cheese platter and delicious chicken with melted cheddar and bbq sauce. Everything was superb, could not find anything wrong. The service was a bit slow, but if you are not in a rush, who cares?

We thought we would have a meal at this attractive looking pub whilst staying in Cheddar. After perusing the menu, we climbed the steps up to the pub and went in, the place was empty apart from a man doing a pile of paperwork at one of the tables, he stood up and asked " can i help you", we said we were after some lunch only to be told that the kitchen wasnt open. We didnt feel very welcome so we didnt even stay for a drink, on reading other reviews i think we had a lucky escape !!!

We were tempted into the pub by the sign outside which read, dogs, children, ramblers, all welcome. As usual I checked with the barman if we could bring the dog in and was told it was fine. We paid for our food and drinks and sat down in the only available space. Five minutes later the landlord appeared at our table and loudly informed us that dogs weren't allowed in that area. When I pointed out that we had checked with the barman his response was that they had only taken over the pub last week! My wife asked where we could sit and he frog-marched us to a filthy table covered in his paperwork, which he shoved across to the adjoining table. He then proceeded to conduct all his business next to us whilst we waited an hour for two chicken burgers. In fairness the chicken was so tough I think they had cooked it for the full hour. I recommend you avoid this place like the plague until it changes hands again, which at the rate he's going shouldn't be long.

Had the feel of a town centre pub but in an ideal location in Cheddar Gorge. Staff were very friendly and the food was actually very nice; however the place did have a bit of a run-down-needs-a-good-clean feel about it.

The pies sound nice, and I know that they are expensive and bought in, but it would have been nice if they were heated up to a decent temperature inside. And we found them a lot cheaper in town a few days later.
