“Our first camping trip”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Our first camping trip, found the site to be very clean, friendly, helpful and relaxing. We loved the fact you could have a camp fire and firewood was supplied and delivered for a small charge by Jules the owner. beautiful views and close to Cheddar everything you want for a chilled camping experience.
The reason it's not 5 star is due to the toilet and shower facilities. The mens toilet urinal was leaking and overflowing on to the floor of the toilet and there were 3 showers not working for a period of time on Sunday morning. However that's not stopping us going back, as we've already booked for the August Bank Holiday weekend. :-)

Beautiful open fields and it's only a short walk to Cheddar town. Jules and the team were incredibly helpful, allowing us to charge our phones and re-freeze our ice blocks and just putting up with us in general! Toilets weren't particularly brilliant, but exactly what you'd expect from most campsites and were perfectly adequate and cleaned everyday. Showers were fabulous, first time I've genuinely felt clean after showering on a campsite. Campfires were had every night, the wood was very well priced and made the atmosphere very special. We were part of a large group and our satisfaction was unanimous, can't wait for our next visit!

Just spent the nicest weekend there. Loads of space to play, no stress about where to pitch or park, the kids got numerous lifts on the trailer around the field, pizzas were delivered straight to site and you could walk to the gorge. Jules and the team were totally relaxed about the constantly changing number to our group and there was always enough hot water.

Loved having a camp fire. The owner Jules and the other couple running it were friendly and helpful. The site was open, spacious, sunny and with beautiful views.

No rules but everyone was considerate. The facilities were clean and adequate.

Good location, just a few mins to the village but away from road noise.

Two of us spent a long weekend at petruth paddocks campsite and really enjoyed our stay.We would have been happy to have stayed for a whole week. We hope to return as soon as possible. As soon as you arrive you can see that it is a well run and popular campsite. You can pretty much pitch up any where in the camping field you like and you can leave or arrive anytime between 9 am and 11pm .You can have campfires which we did every evening logs and kindling can be purchased there. Toilets and showers were always clean and the showers were hot and very spacious with plenty of room to get dry and dressed. You can walk from the campsite along the strawberry walkway that takes you to cheddar town witch has two supermarkets. If you continue to walk on you come to the gorge area which is full of shops pubs and tearooms. A short drive up the road is a few fruit and veg stalls on the side of the road selling delicious strawberrys and other things. Cheddar garden centre and go kart trak is also nearby. On a Sunday you can walk from the campsite to a big carboot sale. You can even have food delivered to your tent from pizza magic. This information and alot more is in a booklet you are given when you arrive. In the middle of the camping field is an old land rover that the children of the campsite absolutely loved. They also enjoyed rides in the trailor that delivers your logs. It was a joy to see children having so much fun and letting there imaginations run wild without computers and mobile phones . We met with a couple of family members while in cheddar and they came back to the campsite for an hour before they left to drive home and even they said that it was a lovely atmosphere very relaxing and how nice the staff were. The staff here are absolutely fantastic and so laid back. Everyone who was camping while we were there seemed so happy and having a great time. Overall I cant wait to come back to petruth paddocks campsite.

A bunch of us spent a "dads and kids" weekend camping. What a relaxing time we had. The owners were very accomodating and the tranquil setting and facility to have a large open fire (and a good supply of firewood) made for a fantastic weekend. So many places you stay at have petty rules that detract from allowing you to have a pleasurable stay. How refreshing it was when Jules (the owner) said to us "the only rule is that you be sensible and enjoy yourself" and that we certainly did. Being a father of two young girls, both their safety and enjoyment are paramount to me. They had loads of fun being able to run free around the fields (and tehy can't stop talking about the tractor ride) and yet they were always in sight which meant that I could relax too. I did in fact contantly lose my 3 year old, but this was only due to the excellent location of the toilettes and the fact that she kept heading off to the loos by herself. I never had to look far. The ablutions were always clean and the showers are excellent. If you did want to head out, the beautiul town of cheddar is only a few minutes walk away. This has been one of my most enjoyable camping experiences to date. The whole group have agreed that we will return very soon, and Im sure many of us will be bringing our families along for a weekend too.

We were very impressed with Petruth Paddocks. We booked 2 days prior to going which I thought would make it difficult but I got a very fast reply from the owner who was very friendly and said they had plenty of room.
On arrival we were greeted by very friendly owners who talked us through the rules and regulations and gave us a booklet they had made with things to do in the area (v helpful) and then sold us some fire wood. I must say the best part about this campsite is that they allow proper campfires, you don't find many campsites that allow that these days. Jules came to our tent at 6pm with our fire wood and talked us through how to start the fire.
Toilet facilities and showers are spotlessly clean and showers are very powerful!
The only negative was that there was a huge group of teenagers across the field from us who took advantage of the fact that there weren't many rules at the campsite and played very loud music until 3am, then proceeded to walk amongst everyone's tents shouting and being drunk idiots! Not that it the campsites fault at all, just selfish teenagers.
Dogs are very welcome at the campsite as well, my dog absolutely loved it as we had a field of horses one side of us, and a field of cows and sheep the other side! It's a beautiful area and is so quiet and peaceful. Also, Cheddar Gorge is a 10 min walk away as well as many other scenic walks.
Well worth a visit, great value for money and very friendly owners who are happy to help any time of the day. I will be visiting again!
