“Great West Country stay!”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

We are experienced campers and I can honestly say I haven't been to a more friendly place! They are welcoming and they check your ok and if you need anything! they pick up the kids on there quads and make there day! There's no park here but my kids have enjoyed it thoroughly, there are little mounds all the children play together on and you can see them from wherever your sat.

The facilities are usable you don't feel like you need trainers on in the showers haha. Could maybe be cleaned an extra time a day but there what you would expect as good standard.

Love the fact you can have a fire pit dug out not been anywhere before that let's you do this take full advantage off it!!

We walked into Cheddar gorge from here my husband grumbled at me as there's no path along the way so thought I'd mention as I'd been told parking wasn't great and expensive it's not it was £3.50 all day stay just at the bottom off the gorge so if you are planning it probably best to take the car if you have little ones haha was a tad ropey!!!!

Overall had a fantastic stay and will be back!! Xx

Thank you so muc for such a lovely review - it makes all out hard work so worthwhile!

Just one correction - the Strawberry Line footpath runs from our gate to Cheddar village and the route onto the Gorge is all pavements from there. It's explained in our Welcome Guide and on signs near the entrance - I'm sorry you missed that information - we'll erect a larger sign!

Warm Regards

Jules and the team

A group us booked for a long weekend - some caravans some tents.
The fields are wonderful, the owner and staff friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed being able to sit around a large brazier in the evening, and the use of a large barbecue.
Unfortunately the electric hook-up was intermittent, so we had to use gas for the fridge.
The showers seemed to deliver only luke-warm water and the toilets were somewhat basic and not always lit at night. Washing up area left a lot to be desired, and water not hot.
It should be a lovely place to stay, and once the facilities have been updated I'm sure it will be.

Room Tip: This is a campsite (basicly several large fields) level and grass cut short. You need to book elec...

We spent one night with our 2 dogs and motorhome. The owner and staff are among the most personable and helpful you will find on any campsite anywhere. The fields are organised according to what kind of camping experience you're after (eg: If you want a campfire, there's a campfire field). Shower facilities etc might be a little basic for some tastes but they are more than adequate and more importantly, thoroughly clean.

If like us, you choose to break up the drive to/from Cornwall, here's a great spot to do it. Who knows, you might decide to stick around for a bit.

We stopped here for 15 nights in August. Arrived and welcomed by David and Laura, who showed us which hook up was ours and helped us settle in. Made to feel very welcome.

Site has no rules, other then to respect follow campers, and for a site with no more rules then that.... it was a pleasant surprise to see no rubbish laying around, no dog muck no picked up, toilets clean, bins always had room.

There was a new toilet block added when when we were there giving a total of 8 free showers unisex showers (always hot and powerful), 6 mens toilets and 6 womens toilets. Toilet roll plenty

Fields are flat and well maintained. Jules, the owner has plans for the site next year including more hook ups. There is grass and hard standing for the hook ups at the moment.

Jules, David and Laura are out and about on site all the time, picking up, dropping off, fixing things, emptying things, making people feel welcome and that everyone is having a good time. Any problems were sorted out straight away, and with a friendly smile and willingness of people proud of their site.

Fires are allowed and encouraged. Jules is on his quad bike and trailer every evening dropping off wood to your tent.... £5 for big wood and £2.50 for kindling. Laura was very helpful in keeping a tally of my son's internet use (bought on a wifi ticket). She also found out info about a pub for me that I couldn't find out.

Saturday night there was an open air cinema projected onto the side of a barn, with a fire, haybales, or bring your own seats and drink. It was 'Carry On Camping!' there was a childrens film before hand.

There is a pizza delivery straight to the site.... food was ok.... had better.

There are many eateries in Cheddar, all walking distance 10-20mins max. The Galleries is a dog friendly pub just as you go into the gorge on the right. food was good, other eateries better but not dog friendly.

Recomended are the walks in the area... up onto the south mendip hills.... views from the stop are amazing!

There is a public indoor swimming pool in Wells, 25m pool but also has rapids, jaccuzzi pool, water cannons etc.

There is a public indoor 33m pool in Street (Strode College) and a public outdoor pool on Street. Greenbank Pool. water temperature very very warm! There is a small shop on the site.

Street Shoe museum worth visiting.

We didnt do the gorge caves or wookey hole as we've done them before, and didnt think much to them.

For musicians, there is an open mic night on a thursday night & sunday in Glastonbury, at the Hawthorns, at the kings head in cheddar on the thursday.

Lovely big flat fields with fab views. Large pitches.
Showers are in portacabins and are a little bit hit and miss for getting a good one ... but when you do they are powerful and hot. The loos again are portacabins and there are 3 which may cause a problem when it's packed at a weekend . Only one sink to wash your dishes in and it has no hot water .
Walking distance into cheddar and to the gorge. Plenty of shops and pubs etc .

The site was magnificent, with superb views of the Mendips, a lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and owner, lovely hot showers and excellent campfires. We would definitely come again.

Me and my girlfriend stayed for 5 nights recently with our dog at a cost of £17 per night for a grass pitch without power and £3 per night for the dog.
I would say it is average value for money for what is provided really as much as it is a nice site in a nice location. It is a pretty big site with a lot of room for tents, however the toilets provided are far too small for the amount of people there. The shower situation was a bit better and I never encountered any queues although I only had 1 decent shower out of the 5 I had. The water was either really cold or seemed to become extremely weak every time another tap turned on. We have paid a lot less at other sites with much better facilities.

Other than the facilities, we had a fantastic stay. The dog was free to run around off the leash and he was having the time of his life. There is also a quiet field and loud field with the latter being where you can having fire pits and you could buy wood and kindling for £7.50 from the owner Jules who did a nightly drive around.
The staff at the site were all really nice and very friendly, like mentioned on their website there isn't any intrusive wardens and you are largely just left to enjoy your stay.

The site is perfect for family and groups of all sizes and ages and is in a great location!

You can walk from the site into the village in about 5 minutes along a footpath that helps you avoid the road. There is a Tesco Express and a Budgens supermarket which are handy for supplies as well as a few great places to eat in town such as the Bath Arms.
You can walk to cheddar gorge in about 15mins and or you can drive there but you will have to deal with parking and pay the few quid for it.

Overall I definitely recommend this place and we would love to return again.

The one tip I can give is that it is very easy to pass the site on the road. The site in on Labourham Way, however for some reason there isn't a road sign on the main road (A371 i think). You just have to make sure to take the first right after the Cheddar FC footy pitch and you should see the signs for the site on the left.
