“Tucked away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2013

You have to walk through a shop entrance to get to the tea rooms and gardens. After that its a pleasant experience. Good service and quiet.

“Recommended”

Went on a quiet mid week day, when only a few places in Dunster were open. Speedy and very friendly staff. Excellent cakes, very generous helpings too. Recommended.

“slow but worth the wait”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2013

Today was our second visit to this tea room. On both occasions the place was busy and only one person taking orders, another bringing the food and a third clearing tables. We had quite a lengthy wait for our order to be taken and then again before receiving the food. The chunky sandwich was cut into half - maybe four triangles would have improved presentation and a slightly larger plate would have made eating the sidesalad easier. However the filling was not sparse and the ham was lovely. Some soft music playing in the background would have been nice as it was very quiet once a table of very talkative people had left, making it feel a bit like a waiting room where you had to whisper. In my opinion both visits were consistent

“Worth A Try”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2013

Paid Locks a visit based on reviews - even the average ones. Whilst I agree that it's a little overhyped - it's worth a visit if you find yourself in Dunster.
I was lucky to visit on a sunny day and got to sit in the little courtyard.
Having walked my socks off at the Castle grounds I was in need of sustenance and Locks delivered with a ploughman's lunch. I chose the cheddar (no complaints) and whilst it was ample the presentation left a little to be desired - a slightly larger plate is all it needs as it was difficult to negotiate all the items piled on the plate without over spilling onto the table.
It wasn't too busy when I went (Monday at around 2.30pm) and service was swift and polite.
Whilst I was there, there were 2 tables of returnees, so they must be doing something right.

“A TEA ROOM FOR ALL SEASONS”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2013

A typical tea room serving cream teas and cakes tucked away down a narrow passageway in the centre of Dunster. There’s a choice of an open courtyard, an indoor tea room and a pleasant garden, so it’s fit for all weather. The ginger scones and ginger honey was an unusual offering and worth a try if you’ve had your fill of the more traditional plain/fruit scone, jam and cream. There’s a door at the end of the garden that allows you back in the National Trust car park saving a slog up the hill and down again.
