“Excellent, attentive service”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

The service in the bar was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us. The food was good as well and served quickly. The pub is divided into lots of different areas, making it interesting and cosy. Highly recommended!

Found this hotel by chance looking for lunch in dunster. Fab sandwiches
and a ploughmans beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Best tuna sandwich I have had in ages! Had our two dogs with us and we were made extremely welcome. Gorgeous surroundings we sat in the courtyard. The secret garden overlooking the castle is amazing. Will definately co e back and stay overnight next time and they accept doggies. Staff very friendly without being too in your face!have already recommended it to a friend. Made a nice day out very specual glad we found it.

Booked the hotel for husbands 40th, room 14! What a room! Huge four poster bed, very regal decor, beautiful bit of medieval luxury. Room looks out over dunster. Superb stay and great service by reception and all hotel staff. Book this room if you want luxury or a wonderful suprise for some one!

Shared a weekend with friends, great hotel, very friendly staff, good food, comfortable rooms. They do have hair dryers in rooms but don't say so in hotel website. Close to Exmoor and castle, town is loverly with lots of good quality shops with local flavour.

After driving along the coast we couldn't find any charming place to stay then we stumbled upon this place and were shown a variety of rooms and opted for the 4 poster room, defiantly worth it loved the luxury. My only fault was that the tv could have been bigger for the size of the room and the bath was also a tad small.
Restaurant and bar was awesome, though was looking forward to the ribs but alas so had a lot of people before me and none left?
I will definitely be heading back and probably staying a bit longer.
Thanks

Dropped in on a whim and glad I did! Helpful and efficient staff, clean and comfortable rooms and great food. Really loved the atmosphere in the bar with the open fire, made even more enjoyable by the goodlooking bloke serving the beer! I'll be back!

Visited this hotel after a break of about 18 months. The hotel under new ownership and management and what a difference!! The hotel has undertaken the TLC that was so desperately required. Not only is the redecoration programme well underway with so many little touches that make such a difference. You will certainly enjoy the ambiance and welcome from the courteous and friendly staff. Definately back on our list of favourite places to stay in Somerset/Exmoor area.

Room Tip: Choose a feature room with a four poster bed

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Luttrell Arms is a 3 star, 28 room hotel. Set in the medieval village of Dunster with its many interesting buildings, under the shadow of the Castle and within the Exmoor National Park. The privately owned 14th century Luttrell Arms is surrounded by beautiful countryside making it the ideal destination for that weekend break or midweek getaway. Stroll around the village, walk the moor, or just sit by a log fire in a building where hospitality has been a way of life for hundreds of years. Heritage "If you could bottle the air in the bar at the Luttrell Arms and sell it you'd clean up" so wrote a local journalist. The smell of logs burning on the fire, a hint of hops from the pints of ale, add to this the smell of something aromatic being cooked in the kitchen, and the most essential element - the smell of history, it oozes out of the walls which have stood for 800 years. There are many outstanding architectural features, the medieval hall with its hammer beam roof (room 17) and twelve light window. History seeps out of the blackened frames, which had their glass rattled loose as Cromwell’s gunners laid siege to Dunster Castle from a defended strong point at the end of the garden. Cromwell’s Commander, Col. Robert Blake walked the corridors of the hotel, it was then called the Ship Inn and was used as his headquarters throughout the siege of the castle. Also of note is some very fine plasterwork on the ceiling of the lounge downstairs, and the plaster over mantle in room 12, showing Actaeon being devoured by hounds. The Arms of Luttrell that we use today carry us back to a Gentleman of 1261, the crest takes us only back to 1621, but the supporters are directly derived from one of the Barons who coerced King John into sealing Magna Carta. A more modern visitor is Hercule Poirot. In "The Cornish Mystery" he confronts the murderer in one of the hotel’s bedrooms. ... more   less
