The most magical, romantic, amazing olde world'y hotel in the the whole world. Every knook and cranny has a fabulous feature; from the AMAZING four poster rooms (except for 'I think' room 16...the family room four poster - don't like that one so much) through to the medieval lounge, fabulous restaurant, gorgeous bar, amazing gardens...absolutely every single area of the hotel is fabulous. Absolutely LOVE this hotel. Only downside is the parking - I used to prebook one of the three garages. Absolutely brillant place to explore Exmoor whether it be for the lovely villages through to the amazing coastline and moorland. Dunster by Candlelight is just fabulous.
Not really a childs hotel however would one million percent recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Choose a four poster or a superior room

Thank you for your kind words.

We are so pleased to hear how much you love the hotel - it is very much appreciated! Old buildings have their pros and cons, The Luttrell Arms, has more than its fair share of pros - it is a unique building bursting with atmosphere and there truly is no where else like it!

With regard to the parking, next time you come to stay please enquire about a parking permit, we don't have hundreds but we do have a handful of permits for residents to park in the Dunster Steep car park free of charge, it also allows free parking in other west Somerset council car parks so might be useful when exploring further afield!

We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

Stayed here for three nights 17th~20th January a Christmas present from our daughter. We stayed in room 17 which was the most remarkable room we have ever stayed in, 4 poster bed, oak beams and everything you could wish for. The staff were very attentive and nothing too much trouble. We were going to try other eateries in the area but the food was so good that we ate in every night.
Dunster is a very old beautiful village in the heart of Somerset and well worth a visit.

Room Tip: The hotel accepts dogs in lower garden rooms which are lovely as you have patio doors directly onto...

We booked several rooms for three generations of the family and the hotel staff were always most helpful when we shuffled our requirements about, made tentative bookings and then changed them. They could not have been more obliging and we had a family great get-together. The hotel has great character and Dunster is such a picturesque village.

This is not the first time we have stayed, but it is the best. The staff are all helpful and polite, and as ever, the old-world charm of the hotel greets you on arrival. One small downside - on arrival we planned to eat from the A'la Carte menu for dinner. This was on a Sunday evening, only to be informed this wasnt available, and only a limited bar menu was on offer. We understand a special deal was in place for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for the Sunday night - hence the limited menu. We were not made aware of this at the time of booking, so were disappointed to have to wait until Monday for the full menu. However, the rooms were very comfortable and appear to have been refurbished recently. We would recommend the Hotel and would certainly visit again.

Room Tip: Probably to avoid rooms overlooking the road to avoid the traffic noise (that said, there's not...

We stayed at the hotel on Sunday 23rd December. It was a birthday surprise for my vegan partner. The hotel had an amazing deal when staying on a Sunday night in December dinner, bed and breakfast for £49 per person. I contacted the hotel in advance and they provided a menu specific to my partners dietary requirements. The food was amazing but didn't compare to the fabulous four poster room we had. The hotel and decor were amazing. 10/10. I would highly recommend this hotel.

As others have said, there's a very warm welcome when you arrive and staff remain attentive and welcoming throughout your stay. I was here for 5 nights on a business trip and really enjoyed my stay. The hotel was booked by a colleague and I have to say I was expecting to be staying above some dodgy pub when I heard the name, but as it turns out, it's a really lovely building and you can tell the current owners (who apparently took over about a year ago) and staff are making a real effort to ensure the Luttrell Arms is a welcoming place that you want to come back to. Staff were really helpful; the beds are super comfy (best night's sleep I've had in ages!) there's good information on what to do in the local area in all the rooms and there's WiFi. Dunster as a whole actually has turned out to be a really nice village. I wish I had been here on a romantic getaway rather than a business trip as it would be a great holiday retreat. Don't expect to have mobile phone signal though! This whole region is a signal blackspot (on Vodafone at least), but obviously with the WiFi you can still WhatsApp / Facebook message anyone you need to be in touch with.

I stayed for just one night at The Luttrell Arms during the Christmas/New Year period, with 3 other family members. We received a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly staff. Our rooms were attractive, well appointed/equipped and spotlessly clean! We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel's restaurant which, like the rest of The Luttrell Arms, is beautifully decorated and truly inviting. The food and wine lived up to the environment.

All told, we had a great stay and special thanks must go to Kristina for all the trouble she went to, to make sure we had the best possible experience. We look forward to returning and recommend The Luttrell Arms without hesitation.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Luttrell Arms is a 3 star, 28 room hotel. Set in the medieval village of Dunster with its many interesting buildings, under the shadow of the Castle and within the Exmoor National Park. The privately owned 14th century Luttrell Arms is surrounded by beautiful countryside making it the ideal destination for that weekend break or midweek getaway. Stroll around the village, walk the moor, or just sit by a log fire in a building where hospitality has been a way of life for hundreds of years. Heritage "If you could bottle the air in the bar at the Luttrell Arms and sell it you'd clean up" so wrote a local journalist. The smell of logs burning on the fire, a hint of hops from the pints of ale, add to this the smell of something aromatic being cooked in the kitchen, and the most essential element - the smell of history, it oozes out of the walls which have stood for 800 years. There are many outstanding architectural features, the medieval hall with its hammer beam roof (room 17) and twelve light window. History seeps out of the blackened frames, which had their glass rattled loose as Cromwell’s gunners laid siege to Dunster Castle from a defended strong point at the end of the garden. Cromwell’s Commander, Col. Robert Blake walked the corridors of the hotel, it was then called the Ship Inn and was used as his headquarters throughout the siege of the castle. Also of note is some very fine plasterwork on the ceiling of the lounge downstairs, and the plaster over mantle in room 12, showing Actaeon being devoured by hounds. The Arms of Luttrell that we use today carry us back to a Gentleman of 1261, the crest takes us only back to 1621, but the supporters are directly derived from one of the Barons who coerced King John into sealing Magna Carta. A more modern visitor is Hercule Poirot. In "The Cornish Mystery" he confronts the murderer in one of the hotel’s bedrooms. ... more   less
