“Very good”

We made a late booking and got a good deal on one of the 4 poster rooms. The room was huge and very comfortable. Evening meal and recently refurbed dining room were very good too, as was the breakfast. The bar is characterful and quirky with some good local beers. Lovely 'secret garden' too. Highly recommended.

We made a last minute booking for the restaurant and what a brilliant choice, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the very professional staff. The Treacle Tart is to die for. Strongly suggest you make an advanced booking if you’re in the area and want to dine in one of the best restaurants in Somerset.

This is our second stay, taking advantage of the Celebration Deal. Room 17 is really something to behold. Really comfortable and cosy. The bar is also really cosy. The staff are attentive but not overly so in a good way. Sunday evening we sat in the Secret Garden and it was sublime. This place just gets better and better!

This is a truly beautiful 14th century building full of nooks, crannies, and turns. It oozes atmosphere.

The bedrooms are adapted to suit the old buildings, and if you’re looking for a modern hotel experience, this is not for you.

I noticed the Manager on duty offering a lift to a lonely old gentleman in the bar who had too much to drink. I thought this was a lovely and caring gesture.

We had dinner in the bar and breakfast both of which were lovely.

Treat yourself if you want an old world experience.

I booked myself and my wife into the luttrell arms as a last minute anniversary treat. I initially found a good deal on bookings.com but decided to call the hotel direct to see if they could do a better deal. The reception team were very good and sorted out a fantastic price for our stay, in one of there four poster bed rooms(room 17) including breakfast and evening meal.

On our early arrival (about 11ish) the receptionist was very welcoming and professional, I dumped the bags and got a free car park permit for the car park around the corner. We were then aloud to check in to the room early.

We stayed in room 17 which is stunning, four poster bed, vaulted ceiling, sitting area and fabulous decor. You don't get a view but you don't need it as the room is beautiful. We sat in the secret garden for lunch overlooking dunster castle, we only had baguettes but they were lovely.

We tried various wines from their wine list and all were very nice, try the Pinot noir a little expensive but nice.

The evening meal was very nice with lovely waiting on staff (Karen) all the courses were cooked well and the steak was fab, the sweet portion was a little small but tasted fantastic.

All in all a great visit to a great place, I would recommend this place to anybody.

Fantastic staff, keep up the good work.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 17, it's wonderful vaulted ceiling is amazing

A friend booked a 3 night stay for the 2 of us last week and it was simply wonderful. My whole experience of the hotel was first rate. The staff are so friendly and accomodating-nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are well laid out and each oe is unique. We stayed in the Rosehip room, which had a balcony terrace and steps down to a beautiful cottage garden.
The food was delicious too.
Am already planning my return with hubby!

Room Tip: I can certainly recommend the Rosehip Room!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Luttrell Arms is a 3 star, 28 room hotel. Set in the medieval village of Dunster with its many interesting buildings, under the shadow of the Castle and within the Exmoor National Park. The privately owned 14th century Luttrell Arms is surrounded by beautiful countryside making it the ideal destination for that weekend break or midweek getaway. Stroll around the village, walk the moor, or just sit by a log fire in a building where hospitality has been a way of life for hundreds of years. Heritage "If you could bottle the air in the bar at the Luttrell Arms and sell it you'd clean up" so wrote a local journalist. The smell of logs burning on the fire, a hint of hops from the pints of ale, add to this the smell of something aromatic being cooked in the kitchen, and the most essential element - the smell of history, it oozes out of the walls which have stood for 800 years. There are many outstanding architectural features, the medieval hall with its hammer beam roof (room 17) and twelve light window. History seeps out of the blackened frames, which had their glass rattled loose as Cromwell’s gunners laid siege to Dunster Castle from a defended strong point at the end of the garden. Cromwell’s Commander, Col. Robert Blake walked the corridors of the hotel, it was then called the Ship Inn and was used as his headquarters throughout the siege of the castle. Also of note is some very fine plasterwork on the ceiling of the lounge downstairs, and the plaster over mantle in room 12, showing Actaeon being devoured by hounds. The Arms of Luttrell that we use today carry us back to a Gentleman of 1261, the crest takes us only back to 1621, but the supporters are directly derived from one of the Barons who coerced King John into sealing Magna Carta. A more modern visitor is Hercule Poirot. In "The Cornish Mystery" he confronts the murderer in one of the hotel’s bedrooms. ... more   less
