Dunster Castle is a truly interesting place to visit, as you catch a glimpse of a totally different way of living. It is in fact a bit "Downton Abbeyish", if that is even a phrase.

All the staff and volunteers work hard to make your visit interesting. And the man who takes care of your bags during your visit had the nicest, perfectly in character, tweed jacket.

Dunster castle and gardens is a must visit place, well worth the entrance fee £10.95 with gift aid. You can spend all day here. beautiful house and gardens, water- mill, so much to see.
We were staying in Dunster so not far to walk, but there are plenty of NT car parking spaces, and you can park around Dunster also.Free on road parking in Dunster or another car park by the Foresters Arms ( turn left by the pub) just through the lovely village of Dunster.
Toilets are free, and a lovely little NT shop at the bottom of the hill. A bit of a walk up through the archway, but there are alternative walks around the castle and through the gardens, less steep.
The house and castle grounds are truly lovely with stunning views.
We walked through Dunster down to the water - mill and showed our tickets again to see the mill and walk back along the river and sat on the lovers bridge. Great lace for families as we saw a nice play area down by the river walk.We even jumped along the tree stumps !
Lovely tea room by the water-mill. Take cameras for those lovely views, walking boots .
Pop into the Stags Head for a quick pint, perfect day !

We went to see the castle and parked up in the Dunster centre, but we would of been better going through Dunster and parking on the castle car park.Because you can park for longer, I have a disabled car parking for 3 free hours, which was not long enough. We did not see every think, but we will go again, if only to see the grounds. If you like history, you will love it, well worth the money. Because of the steppe location they run a free bus to the castle. There are picnic area's and a cafe so you can take your time going around and have a break before you start the large grounds.

Visited on a beautiful day and the gardens were really lovely. Not usually that keen on old houses but loved the more modern history of the building. Really recommended.
