My wife and I enjoyed a lovely day out here. We used the West Somerset Railway and took the 'Dunster Castle Express' up from Bishops Lydeard - bit of a discount on the Castle entry if you're planning on doing both. The castle is very picturesque although more like a stately home with some beautiful outlooks. Did get a little fed up with constantly being asked to show our tickets as we went round despite on one occasion actually being on our way out through the gift shop! If you don't want to take the bus back to Dunster station then the walk back is easy and takes just 15-20 mins and is more or less all downhill and routes along a purpose built pathway.

This place looks like a fairy-tale castle set on a high knoll above the village. It is quite a flog to get up to the castle but it's well worth it with fabulous views. The house (castle) was interesting, apart from the guided tour of the old kitchens where the guide adopted the principle of "why use 20 words when 1000 will do". I had to leave that tour suffering terminal boredom. After the house we visited the working watermill which is a 10 minute walk through delightful grounds.

Dunster Castle looks quite spectacular set in the trees towering above Dunster. The gardens and house are well maintained and worth looking round. There are some nice walks around the surrounding countryside.
