“Fabulous hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014 via mobile

We had a fabulous short break with our nephew. Both of our rooms were spotless and the bed was amazing. We were greeted on arrival with tea and cake which was lovely after a long journey. Steve and Sheila went out of their way to make us feel at home. The little extra of fridge on the landing with fresh milk and numerous squashes was a welcome extra. Breakfast was amazing- huge choice and really high quality. This place is fabulous and cannot recommend it more highly. We will return

We had a delightful stay here for 3 nights. We had tea and cake in the lounge on arrival, there was fresh milk in a communal fridge with cooled water and soft drinks. Breakfast was delicious with a varied menu, service was friendly and wet gear was lined up to dry! We hope to revisit this excellent B&B. Jean/Norman

Thoroughly recommended. Warm welcome on arrival with tea and cakes, first class accommodation, friendly and very helpful hosts, excellent breakfast variety, in close proximity to village restaurants and wonderful countryside.

This guesthouse was the best we have ever stayed in. Everything was 5* with a super king size bed and beautiful trimmings. The owners Steve and Sheila made us feel so welcome and on arrival served coffee, tea and homemade cakes. Will definitely be going back!!

Room Tip: Not need for a tip all rooms and the whole guesthouse was excellent.

My wife & I stayed at Exmoor House for the weekend to attend a friend's 30th birthday celebrations. We were welcomed on arrival with tea & cake in the guest living room by Steve late on Friday night. He was friendly & had a chat with us before showing us to our room & pointed out on the way where we could find fresh milk & water to make hot drinks or squash in our rooms. The double room was a great size & impeccably clean. We were most impressed!!!

In the morning we met Sheila at breakfast & like Steve she was very pleasant & helpful. There was a vast variety of food on offer & everything that we ate & drank was tasty!

Exmoor House was a wonderful base for us over the weekend, particularly for my wife who is currently 6 months pregnant & had the day in Dunster on the Saturday when I went off to mountain bike for the day. She came & went from the B&B at her leisure to take a walk around Dunster & visit the nearby shops. When she became tired she went back to our room to put her feet up & read or go for a snooze.

In the evening we only had a 5 minute walk to the High Street to attend our friend's birthday party at the Dunster Castle pub.

Highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the area!

My husband, three year old daughter and I booked a room at this B&B a couple of weeks ago and were looking forward to exploring beautiful Dunster over a long holiday weekend. The owners Steve and Sheila behaved in quite an odd way as soon as they saw us, were unfriendly and didn’t seem to want to engage. Having asked us to wait in a very charming living room while they had a whispered conversation outside, Steve came in, and then told us there was a problem with our booking. They said there had been no mention of a child in the booking and that they didn’t accept children. Our daughter is three, and their website says very clearly that children over three are welcome. He was not very forthcoming and just stood looking at us in a rather awkward silence leaving us to ask what the problem was. After a few questions from us, he said that they had no equipment for babies; no potties, cots, high chairs etc. We explained that our daughter didn’t need anything like that and was going to sleep with us anyway. Steve then said that it was ok but not in a terribly convincing way. We were exhausted after the drive, so put our case in the room and went off to explore. It was a horrible start to a family holiday and we were so upset that we decided to go back, get our case and leave. My husband explained why we were leaving and said that he wouldn’t expect to be charged for the room. Steve then was quite unpleasant saying that he was an independent business and answerable to no one so he would ‘split the difference” and there was nothing my husband could do about it. They have in fact taken the full amount, £80 for that night and have refused to refund the whole or even part of the charge. They take no responsibility for their behaviour being the reason we left. Clearly they didn’t want our business, but had no qualms about taking our money.

A disappointing if not anticipated review, which is not a true reflection of events as we recall it. As readers can clearly see it is completely out of kilter with the previous 110 reviews.

The individuals concerned booked a room on line for 2 nights for 2 adults and 0 children, then arrived carrying a very small child, who to us looked younger than 3yrs. We often have children staying and have no issue with this, but we were anxious that the booking may have been recorded wrong, and that they were expecting a family room. Due to the limited facilities we have we also only accept children over 3yrs. The only way I could clarify these points was by asking the guests in question. They seemed to take great offence that I should even have the temerity to be asking, and started throwing questions at me about our child policy. Eventually they did confirm that they had only booked a double room and that the child would be sleeping with them. They declined the refreshment offered, and were shown to their room.

About 2 hours later the husband returned to the guesthouse alone, and informed me they were not staying. I tried to persuade him otherwise at which point he subjected me to a tirade of verbal abuse that prompted other guests present to intervene on my behalf. It was not me being unpleasant but rather the reverse!

We would dearly have liked them to stay however, it was clear from the gentleman’s demeanour this was not going to be. Our cancellation policy is very clear and unfortunately under the terms and conditions of the booking they were liable for the full cost of their stay. This was explained to him before he left, but as a concession I agreed to charge for only one night. We are a small business and cannot absorb the full costs of booked but unused rooms, particularly at busy times,

I suppose you have to accept that there are going to be occasions when, despite your best efforts, you cannot please every individual. We consider ourselves fortunate however, that in the 3 years we have been doing this we have had no other such incidents.

We've just spent two very enjoyable nights in Dunster, mainly thanks to the terrific accommodation provided by Exmoor rHouse. There was no detail overlooked, from the cup of tea on arrival to quietly removing damp jackets from our room to hang in their drying cupboard! Our room was spacious, clean and very well equipped and close to the castle. Breakfasts were amazing!
We couldn't reccmmend Exmoor House highly enough.
