I am always amazed how the standard stays so high. We have travelled here for over five years and continue to enjoy the subtle touches that our congenial hosts always offer. The cleanliness, the service the legendary breakfasts, the list is too long. We look forward to our return next spring.

Spacious room, very well equiped. Perfect position by Dunster Castle. Very helpful suggestions and booking for restaurants and walks in the area. Always ready to offer tea, coffee and cakes.
If you are a light sleeper the church is quite close and chimes during the night.

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at Spears Cross. What more can one say about this marvellous B&B that has not already been said. Great rooms, wonderful breakfasts and the hosts Cliff and Tricia beyond comparison. Booking restaurants, no problem, where to visit no problem, what more could you ask for. To round off the trip Cliff is a wine expert, who offers great wines for drinking on site or purchasing to take away. This is our first visit but will not be our last.

We first stayed here in 2007 and have returned a couple of times a year ever since. Why do we keep comimg back? Well it must be something to do with the charm and character of the building, the village location, the immaculate bedrooms and modern bathrooms, and the perfect breakfast each day. But above all it must be because of the warm welcome we always receive from Cliff and Tricia :)

We have stayed at Spears Cross quite a few times and every visit has been an absolute joy. The rooms are immaculate, the breakfasts wonderful and nothing is too much trouble for Cliff & Tricia, who will help with anything from booking a restaurant to advising on local walks and what to look out for or places to visit. We will certainly be booking up again when we are next able to escape to Exmoor (so keep that stock of Greengage Jam, Cliff!)

We stayed for two nights in the suite and on arrival were offered coffee and cake while we settled in. The room was spotless and the bed incredibly comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was a delight and a great start to our day. Cliff reserved a table for us at a local restaurant so we had nothing to worry about before our arrival as well. We will be recommending them to anyone we know and will return for a second visit.

We found this perfect place to stay for a wedding at Dunster Castle. The bed was comfortable and with the softest white linen, the room was spacious and so beautifully laid out and full of original character, the bathroom warm and with luxury toiletries. We arrived late to a no fuss welcome then preceded to be the annoying couple that accidently ordered the wrong breakfast for one another! We were treated really kindly, with my gluten free diet in absolute acceptance, they already had gluten free bread, cereal and sausages in as well as soya milk which I had already brought down to breakfast with no bother from Cliff who served us generously. Breakfast here is a very relaxed but very thorough treat, with local products, even the flour for the fruit bread is locally milled.
It's the little things that count and although I rarely stay in hotels and prefer no fuss, we were popping in and out throughout the wedding day (as it was so close to the castle and reception venue) to casual welcomes and we were even left a note at night just to say 'hope you had a good evening- please could you turn off the lights' as we bumbled our way in after 2am.
Clean, full of character and friendly with a really special local breakfast menu, we shall return to take in the stunning views and fully relax! I don't think we've ever left a place so happy, the drive along the stunning North Devon coast towards Croyde left us floating in a fairytale land which is hard to come back from!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Allerford with plain white bedding it felt and looked much better than the photos...
