What a wonderful place! We stayed at Spears Cross for just 3 nights but wish it had been longer. We have never had such superb, pleasant hosts as Cliff and Tricia. They really did make us feel very welcome and special, Nothing was too much trouble for them, from booking a table at local restaurants to running us to the cash machine in Minehead! We stayed in the Porlock Room - absolutely beautiful, clean and comfortable. A fantastic bed with lovely top quality linens; very good storage, bathrobes and White Linen toiletries. As for breakfast, what can we say? Delicious food throughout and all locally produced. And I would just say to Cliff, many thanks for my jar of Dunster honey - it is superb. We can't really say anymore about Spears Cross other than - can't wait to return!!

We have just returned from a weekend in Dunster staying at Spear's Cross. We were made most welcome there and the house was beautiful. I loved the mixture of the old beams with the modern facilities. The rooms were very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. I particularly enjoyed the small touches such as the chocolates and fresh milk to go with the tea and coffee and the breakfasts were delicious.
We were impressed that it was so close to the Castle and that Dunster is such a pretty and friendly place.
The sun also contributed to the success of the weekend by shining all the time!

We have just returned from a 2 night break at Spears Cross and felt I had to wirte a review as this is the best B & B we have stayed in. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts Cliff and Trica from making cups of tea and cake in the afternoon for us on our return from a long walk to chatting in the evening with them over a glass of wine. The breakfast was superb using local produce and the homemade fruit toast was a treat. The bedroom was of a high standard spotlessly clean with choclates left each nigh by your bed. I would highly recommend for anyone thinking of making a trip to Dunster you will not be disappointed.

I shan't repeat what others have said except to say this is the second time we have stayed here. We first went in the winter of 2009 when a welcoming log fire was blazing away in the resident's lounge. We always said we would go back in the summer as we wanted to visit Dunster Castle, so at the last minute we managed to get a room for three nights last week. Everything about this B&B is quite simply excellent, from the hospitality, the welcoming tea and cake, spotless accommodation, well appointed bedrooms and en-suites to an excellent breakfast. I love the way the breakfast menu sets out the provenance of the food - all locally supplied and bought. The addition from our last visit is a liquor licence allowing us to have a gin & tonic prior to going out for dinner to a malt whisky nightcap on return. Cliff has an extensive selection of malt whiskies (at a very reasonable £4 for a double measure) and an excellent wine list which states Cliff's mark-up is just £2 per bottle, quite something these days.
It's an outstanding B&B. Restaurants we tried were Reeves (our second visit), Hathaways and the Stags Head (see my reviews elsewhere). TripAdvisor has them as 1, 2 and 3 respectively and I wouldn't disagree. Dunster Castle is also well worth a visit.

I have recently returned from a two night stay at Spears Cross and have nothing but praise for this lovely B&B. The hosts Cliff and Tricia were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, from giving advice on places to visit to recommendations for local restaurants.
We were welcomed with tea/coffee and homemade cake, which, thanks to the glorious weather, we enjoyed in the well kept garden.
I stayed in the Porlock room, which was very spacious and comfortable. Everything in the room was of a very high quality, but the small touches added by the hosts, take this B&B to the next level - chocolates left each night, fresh milk daily, quality toiletries to name just a few....
The breakfasts were superb, using local produce offering a wide selection to chose from. The 'homemade Dunster toast' was an added treat.
The location is perfect for shops and restaurants in Dunster, but it is also a good base for exploring Exmoor and the surrounding area. The private car park is also an added bonus.
For anyone that is looking to stay in Dunster, I strongly recommend Spears Cross as you will not be disappointed. The previous reviews say it all.

Super hospitality by Cliff and Tricia. Very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spotless. I was
totally pleased with the excellent food especially the porridge which is made with locally made
flour!! I stayed 2 nights but could easily have stayed longer. Thank you Pat Cuthbert

We have just returned from 2 nights at this lovely B&B in a great location. The hosts Cliff and Tricia couldn't do enough for us, whether it was something simple like helping with luggage, to the more unusual request of printing off my best man speech. The building is beautiful as are the rooms. The little touches made it extra special such as chocolates by the bed each evening and fresh milk for tea and coffee. The breakfasts were a highlight - all local produce and deliciously prepared to order. Nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly recommend for anyone looking for a great stay.
