Great location for visiting the many attractions of Somerset. We particularly enjoyed Wells, Frome and picnicking at Blagdon Lake. Loved being able to see the Tor from the house and being able to walk to it easily!
The house is full of character and charm, although the small outside space could do with a bit of attention.....
We had a great time (age range 16 - 86) and would happily return.
Situated about halfway up Bove Town, Avalon cottage is quiet, yet very accessible to the town, and the climb up the hill is not too onerous.
We had booked the cottage as a party of three people (the cottage can accommodate 5/6), so there was plenty room for us all. The accommodation was scrupulously clean on arrival, and we had all the amenities we could hope for. The small courtyard made it possible to dine outside as well as indoors.
Other reviewers have commented on the parking. Our car is the largest size of Citroën Picasa, and we managed to park all right, but only just! Reversing back out was a bit of a test on our manoeuvring skills, but throughout our stay there was ample street parking, and guests are advised about alternative facilities.
When booking, it is advisable to book directly with the proprietor – considerably cheaper than through the various online agents. We saved a good £100 by doing this. Direct booking is easy, and Barbara – the proprietor – was extremely helpful in answering queries and receiving payment.
This was our first stay at Avalon Cottage, and we certainly hope to return soon.
A beautiful cottage in a lovely location a'bove town' as the road name says. Very clean and comfortable with everything you could reasonably need for a great stay. The private parking was a perfect for our Vauxhall Mokka. Our stay was very relaxing and perfect for even just chilling out as well as getting out and about. Every morning a quick look out of the bathroom window and looking to the left at the Tor brightened my day.
It was just a short walk down the road to town but a walk up the road, bearing to the right into Wicks Hollow are worth it for a lovely walk through the trees and leading to some lovely views especially if you get to the end of Wick's Hollow where the Tor is clearly in view.
If wondering about the quality of Wi-Fi all I can say is we never encountered any buffering or failures. If we were watching TV or a film and one of us was in the cooking in Kitchen etc then streaming that channel or film via Sky-Go, Amazon, Netflix etc. via the laptop to match the TV or DVD player was handed by the router without any problem at all.
This was one of the first holidays we've been on that felt like we were home and I don't mean 'home from home' I mean home. I can't recommend Avalon Cottage highly enough.
Well appointed with most things that you need, including dishwasher. Very comfortable beds and comfortably plenty of room in the house for 6 people. A slight uphill walk from the town and exactly 1.5 kms to the top of the tor.
The price includes cleaning, which is the case in all places we have stayed so far anyway.
Small courtyard garden shared with a dustbin and recycling bins, which would have been better behind some sort of screen.
Parking was definitely an issue. A tight squeeze for anything more than smallish car, and near the weekends the car parking spots outside the house were taken up some or most of the day so would have had to park well away from the house, especially if 2 families were staying there with a car each. We were told there would be enough parking outside the house, well in reality this was not the case for us at the time we stayed.
2 small hand towels and 1 tea towel total was provided for 3 adults for the week, so take your own, even though they are supposed to be provided, there is not enough.
One of the rules of the house is that you wear slippers, which is fair enough, so take some with you.
Avalon Cottage is perfect for a family of just a small group of friends. 3 Bedrooms and rooms for dining and relaxing. With a well equipped kitchen and a sunny place to sit outside we had a perfect stay in Glastonbury.
The cottage is lovely and well maintained. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location is very close to the centre of town, up a slight hill and not far from the Tor. The back yard/garden is a real sun trap. Be careful about the size of your car as parking on the street is pretty rare. If you use the parking space you will need to make sure you don't overhang as the neighbours will complain.
