“Good location, needs new beds”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights in March. The room was for 3 and was good size. The bathroom was clean and modernized. Unfortunately, the mattresses are HORRIBLE. As other reviews have stated the mattresses are worn with the springs sticking you all night long. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. Upgrade the beds and I would have given this hotel 4 stars.

Considering the location and the price of £95 I was extremely disappointed with this place. For the price I would have expected a boutique style hotel instead it was a shabby pub with even shabbier rooms. If you tastes include mismatched brown furniture covered in dust, stained carpets, tiny TV, grubby bathroom with pre-used soaps and collections of cobwebs and dead arachnids/insects clinging to every window along with a bed with a mattress approx. 2" thick with polyester sheets and pre-war army blanket then please book!

The only redeeming feature is that it was located where we needed to be.

If you love a la carte and mega luxury this isn't for you. If you love history, it is.
The magic of the building is great. The restaurant has tasteful art painted on the walls and the old and creaking furniture is where the owners have been sympathetic with its surroundings. Would it have the same feel with modern furniture, carpets, curtains? I think not.

The staff were friendly and helpful and to me it was a wonderful stay. Lovely English breakfast and the food, even though basic, are large portions and tasty. The location in the high street couldn't better, you are in the hub without much noise (we stayed in early April). Take the George and Pilgrim for what it is: a beautiful building withholding such history in every nook and cranny. A great place to stay and feel the atmosphere of Glastonbury breathing in its walls. 5 stars are for a wonderful experience.

I have been reading some of the reviews slagging off the place.I ate here last July,on a friends recommendation, and could not fault the food or the service.Yes the place was very busy and we waited twenty minutes for our food, but I think that is about average these days. And the place has a wonderful atmosphere.

This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.
The four poster room was shabby. Holes in the carpet, stains all over the walls, the curtains hanging off their rails and some of the drawers useless as the handles had come off.
At £150.00 per night it is vastly overpriced, maybe £20.00 per night would reflect the correct value of this terrible, run down establishment.
Shame on Relaxinnz, I dread to think what overseas tourists make of it.

Room Tip: Pick a room in another hotel!

If you like creaky, uneven floors, 4 posters, exposed beams, everything out of square but that simply oozes history then this is the place for you. We loved it as you get to actually feel a sense of the history of Glastonbury. The location is great and parking is at the rear. The food is honest and reasonable priced. The staff are just happy and complete the picture. A challenge if more that 2 children as you will need 2 rooms.

The George and Pilgrims clearly polarises opinion! I hope I offer an objective opinion. The George and Pilgrim undoubtedly has seen better times but 'strewth'....it IS medieval! It oozes history and character, it enjoys strong local support, the staff and management we found to be friendly and accommodating and it offers a decent selection of beers, wines and spirits, however this marvellous building is crying out for some love and attention. The guest accommodation could really benefit from a programme of refurbishment. Badly worn carpets and poor soft furnishing are unacceptable in any establishment, let alone a listed gem such as this, charging more than a budget tariff. I'd appeal to the great proprietors just to invest some capital in the George and Pilgrim and make it the landmark establishment in Glastonbury it should be.

Room Tip: The King Henry the Eighth room. Atmospheric. Oozes History (if you don't mind Street noise!)
