I will try to walk the line between the good and bad reviews..The locations is fine..the outside looks like an eighteenth century coaching inn..which it probably was..Parking is a problem..there is none outside the front of the building..baggage has to be unloaded rather sharpish and once complete the driver has to circle the town to get around the back of the pub and park in one of three spaces allocated..if they are full..you have to pay..
The mattresses have entered realms of urban legends..there are many words to describe said mattresses..but we will settle for "unusual"..and for any honeymooners who are making plans to stop there I do warn you to forget about s*x..those mattresses are knee cap breakers.you have been warned.. The carpet in our room had seen better days..(this is a very large understatement).....Breakfast is of the English variety ..all fried..no fruit yoghurt etc..
There is no safe..Safes are very important..Safes are where passports etc are put when guest leave for the day.Not all guests are British..Losing/having a passport stolen guarantees major problems for the victim
There pub itself has a nice ambience and locals and visitors appeared to rub along with each other ..the choice of food is limited ..but if you take a short walk up the street you will come across a fair number of different cafe's/restaurants..
The George and Pilgrims has great unused potential.. but major improvements are required..
The mattresses would be a good place to start..
