Small-Group Day Trip to Stonehenge, Glastonbury...

The walk up to the Tor is not for the faint hearted as it is very steep for most of the way. A very spiritual place of pilgrimage. The views are amazing.

We chose a spectacularly sunny day for our trek up the tour, which was a blessing and a curse... it was a hot journey up the steep gradient, but once up there the views were amazing. Although there were a number of other people enjoying the Tor, it didn't seem overly crowded and we enjoyed looking at the compass map, which showed us where local towns and cities are in relation to the Tor. The trip down was a lot easier than the trip up - be warned it is steep and, although there are steps, it is a hard slog. My only criticism would be that finding the entrance was a bit tricky as there were few signs near the actual bottom of the climb, but a friendly inhabitant helped us out on that point.

We visited Glastonbury and were disappointed by the town - a number of hippie- and spiritualism-related shops but nothing very original or interesting - but we drove out of town to the Tor with the idea of walking part of the way to the top and ended up hiking all the way up. It was absolutely worth it; the view is spectacular and the tower at the summit is breathtakingly dramatic in its own right. We took a wrong turn and actually ended up hiking up the north face, which takes you through a beautiful orchard among other nice sights, however I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. We parked along the side of the lane because other people were (there were a couple of spots marked disabled and we parked just down from those) but when we got back everyone's car had been given a parking ticket!

Walked up the Tor a couple of times by now, and it's always special and so much worth it. Wonderful views from up there and always very special.
