Where to start??? Covenstead is a witchcraft and magic-themed B&B in the heart of Glastonbury. That doesn't even begin to describe this wonderful, luxurious, decadent place. The owner, Adele, has filled this lovely old house with a museum-quality collection of oddities, curios, strange and beautiful items. From the bazaars of Istanbul to ye olde curiosity shoppe, every nook and cranny has yet another piece to delight the eye, or stimulate the imagination. Our room was simply wonderful: picture a huge gold four-poster bed draped with silks and old oriental rugs, with black velvet bedding...... set in room decorated with old Chinese furniture and populated with pictures of the dark erotic goddess/woman in many forms. The rooms are massive. There is a large en-suite bathroom with a big shower enclosure and a full size bath.....mmmmm. Breakfasts are cooked perfectly, and to order, with a huge range of choices. There can't be many guesthouses where meals are eaten with a "hand of glory" under a glass dome as a centrepiece. Or if you prefer, you can sit next to the skeletal rams-head. Our hostess was wonderful - nothing was too much trouble, and she is extremely knowledgable and informative about...... well, just about everything. I think I'm running out of superlatives.....and I haven't even mentioned the mural - on the upper stairs and landing is a very impressive work in progress by well-known local artist Yuri Leitch. It's a lovely composition with Herne the Hunter, the goddess, a classical scene.... and more to come. All in all this was quite simply, wonderful and I can highly recommend the Covenstead to any discerning people out there. It is unique in the best possible way.

Just got back from a two night stay at The Covenstead. Incredible! Adele is the most perfect host and the accommodation is glorious. So much more than a B&B - The Covenstead is opposite the Abbey Gardens so a superb outlook. The rooms are amazing, spacious, pristine yet quirky and filled to the brim with wonderful pictures and artefacts. The Temple has a wonderful energy. I am returning soon, and will never stay anywhere else in Glastonbury (and I am a regular visitor). You simply have to try it, it is extraordinary, exceptional and amazing. Thank you Adele xx

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing, spoilt for choice.

There is nothing negative I can say about this B&B. A wonderfully quirky and delightful place to stay just a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. We stayed in the Hedgewitch room, and I can honestly say that the bed was probably the comfiest I have slept in. The owner, Adele, provides for your every comfort on your stay with a warmth and geniality. Breakfast is an experience in itself. You are seated in gothic splendour, while Adele serves a breakfast fit for a king, and I would defy anyone to leave the table hungry! We didn't need to eat lunch for the duration of our stay.
The rooms are spotlessly clean, and sharing a living room and kitchen with other guests means it is easy to make friends and chat. On your arrival and during your stay there is plentiful tea, coffee and milk in the kitchen area topped up daily as well as bottles of water should you prefer.
Each room in the building is a treat to explore with a myriad of interesting pictures and artefacts. The rooms are decorated in magnificent style
It was like staying with a really hospitable friend, and I can't recommend The Covenstead highly enough

The Covenstead is a delightful old Georgian building right opposite the Abbey Gardens, perfectly situated with anywhere in Glastonbury town centre no more than a few minutes' stroll away. We stayed in one of the four-poster rooms, with lovely high ceiling and tall Georgian windows (and their original wooden shutters - bonus!). The decor in this beautifully-proportioned room is quirky, bold and richly coloured, with luxurious fabrics and Chinese dark lacquered furnishings adding to the nicely decadent feeling. The bed was incredibly comfortable, we slept really well and only just made it down to breakfast on time! The en-suite bathroom was also spacious, well-appointed and absolutely spotless.

Breakfast is massive, and Adele will go out of her way to serve up whatever you ask for on the menu forms (which are provided when you arrive, so that she has time to go and buy fresh ingredients ready for the morning). The choice is enormous, with fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, toast and preserves, plus pretty much everything you could think of for a cooked breakfast. If you only want a light breakfast she may try to persuade you otherwise, as she loves to feed her guests! The portions are very generous, and the food is beautifully cooked, so it's really worth making room to do it justice. You won't need lunch...

The decor throughout the Covenstead has a Pagan theme, and the many unusual pictures, books and ornaments are quite fascinating, whether you're Pagan or not. While we were there, a new decorative touch was being added - a large mural, going up the stairs, which will be a real work of art when it's finished. This place is so far from the typical dull B&B experience of cramped rooms and candlewick bedspreads that it's impossible to rate it in a way that expresses just how excellent it is; the usual standards of welcome, hospitality, decoration, cleanliness, meals and just plain friendliness are exceeded in every way. Five stars? Not nearly enough!

Room Tip: The two first-floor rooms (with the four-poster beds) have views across to the Abbey Gardens, while...

This was our second visit, we just had to go back.
Situated in the centre of town opposite the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey The Covensted is a spacious pagan/witchcraft themed establishment that was in a past life a convent. Describing the accomodation provided as Bed and Breakfast although basically accurate, does not really convey anything of the attention to detail and comfort that is provided by Adele our genial hostess,
The interior of The Covensted is a visual and intellectual delight. The rooms including the communal areas are magnificently decorated, each one to a mythological or magical theme. Every room contains a myriad of tastefuly arranged paintings, ornaments books and artefacts gathered from all over the world.
We stayed in the dark goddess room which contans a very comfortable four poster bed and large ensuite bathroom. An Ideal base to retire to after a hard day spent doing touristy stuff. The breakfast provided in the morning is very tasty and caters for every appetite even very large ones. As for the service provided it is second to none, nothing is overlooked and the level of cleanliness is excellent. The general feel is that of an expensive hotel but with a more friendly relaxed atmosphere.
Another aspect of the Covensted is the clientele. The layout of the breakfast room facilitates conversation between guests. On both occasions that we have been there we have met some really talented friendly and interesting people. I can honestly say and my wife agrees this is the best place we have ever stayed in.
Needless to say we will be staying there again.

After hearing of the Covenstead through Facebook, and loving what we could see through the website we decided to stay for the night of my husbands birthday on the way home from a weeks holiday in Cornwall. The Trip Advisor reviews confirmed our hopes that it was going to be a great place to stay, and we weren't wrong!

As seasoned Glastonbury visitors we were well aware of the unique atmosphere of the town, and were looking forwards to our stay at The Covenstead with great anticipation, but also some trepidation, was it going to live up to our expectations, was it going to be as good as we hoped, or would it turn out to be nothing more than a gimmick and filled with nothing but tat.

Thankfully our stay more than lived up to our wildest expectations!

We arrived early, looking forward to spending the day soaking up all the uniqueness that Glastonbury has to offer, Adele greeted is warmly and allowed us to drop off our bags, even hauling them up to our room once it was ready!

Adele was the perfect hostess, nothing was too much trouble, the rooms were all spotless and it is obvious to anyone that she cares deeply about The Covenstead.

The room we stayed in was The Halloween Honeymoon Suite, a lush, sumptuous, luxurious large and extremely comfortable room, we couldn't fault it at all!

The Covenstead itself is not only sumptuous, but also unique in its decor, nothing offensive, so definitely family friendly, but I could spend weeks exploring all the items on display and still know that I would have missed something!

In addition to the large room and luxurious en-suite bathroom we also had use of a sumptuous guests lounge and small kitchen, which offered the chance to interact with other guests and also the option to use the fridge and microwave, to prepare our own meals or bring in take out, giving a cheaper option rather than having to eat out, a very nice feature, especially if you are on a budget.

There is also another 'Temple' room that is available for guest use, as a quiet reflective space, for meditation of whatever you feel the need for.

I will finish my review with a few words about the BREAKFAST! The choices on offer are myriad, the quality of ingredients, the preparation and the service are absolutely first rate, and portion sizes, well , put it this way, the next meal we had after our 830am breakfast was a light salad at 730pm!

To sum up, if we had to rate it, 5 stars wouldn't be enough, we have already booked in for our Wedding Anniversary this October and our First Meeting Anniversary in May, and can't wait until we are next there!

12/10 Pentacles as a rating Adele :)

Glastonbury is a weird old town and it seemed only right when staying there for a wedding to book somewhere in keeping with the town's... er.... individuality.

And it certainly seemed from the website that the Covenstead, packed with strange and eclectic objects, themed and decorated in pagan style, fitted the bill. Of course there was always the chance that the surface attraction wouldn't be supported in reality, but for two nights, why not take the chance?

And are we glad we did?

You bet!

Because beneath the eccentric surface is an incredibly well run mini-hotel, with superbly appointed rooms and luxurious en-suites, meticulously clean, welcoming and with belt-busting breakfasts packed with all manner of beautifully cooked or presented local produce.

Your hostess is meticulous over every little detail of her hotel. Welcoming, friendly, and committed to making certain each and every guest gets the maximum from their stay.

The location is great too, just a minute's walk from the town centre, and with a convenient parking solution too (Just ask Adele)

Now of course there's a Premier Inn down the road; you might save yourself a tenner by staying there.

And it would be a HUGE mistake.

We'll be back. See you there?

Room Tip: They are all good, and each one different. We had a tour of most of them and would have been happy w...
