My partner and I had a really lovely evening - we were surprised at the good quality compared to other Indian restaurants - the staff were attentive and friendly.

For one main, three sides dishes, two drinks, poppadoms - we paid just under £35.

The evening was really enjoyable - staff great - food very good - it was busy and the food came in a timely way.

We are also vegetarian - and the creativity of the food was also pleasantly surprising.

If you are looking perhaps for a special night out, this may be the place for you.

I judge an Indian restaurant on the freshness of its appetizers and Naan and they were excellent. The main courses were delicious and appropriately spiced and we covered the range from Biriani to Vindaloo.

We were visiting friends in Street who had not been to this restaurant before albeit being local to them so they took a chance when they decided to book a meal here.

The ambience was perfect from start to finish, the meal was superb and beautifully presented.

We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. You could tell how popular it was with fully booked tables.

We visited the Riverside for the first time with some friends and overall we found this to be a disappointing experience.

The service was very slow, we waited for about an hour for our food to be served after ordering and the price of the food was very expensive. My Dansak was £11.25!! - I've never paid this much before, surely these are London prices, for what I would describe as very average food and not authentic.

To sum up - we will not be returning.

Having passed this restaurant many times over the years, we decided to take the plunge and give it a whirl. Having looked at the menu in the reception area we were going to have a take-away until the manager ? said that the prices were not much different between takeaway and restaurant. Unfortunately this is not the case as the prices for eating in house are considerably more expensive.
Having said that, the overall prices were about average and the food was slightly above average. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall, the food was above the minimum standard that I would expect of a restaurant describing itself as "Asian" or "Indian" these days. Many Asian restaurants need to buck up their ideas since there are now some really top quality restaurants around and money is tight. The days of a bit of gravy with more or less chilli and colour etc.with a few bits of cheap meat floating around are no longer acceptable.
I have described the he Riverside food as slightly above the minimum standard because it was of the quality that I expect to receive. It wasn't anything to go into ecstasy about but neither was it in any way poor. The kebabs and tandoori were acceptably spiced and flavoursome and the main courses sufficiently authentic and characterful to merit their descriptions.
However, one major plus point lay in the presentation which was well above average and we were both impressed by the fact that the plates on which our curry was to be served had the individual curry type / description piped out decoratively on the plate in two colours. Couple this to very pleasant decor, cloth tablecloths and decoratively folded napkins and it is obvious that there is some attention to care involved. The location would seem to suggest that it is not likely to be the haunt of turkeys and shouting, swearing after pubbers.
Certainly a restaurant that I would return to since it is so much better than most of the others in the area which for the most part don't even deserve what custom they get.
