Owner description: Home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years this stunning medieval palace is open for all to enjoy. Surrounded by a breathtaking moat with resident Mute swans, you can cross the Drawbridge to experience a true hidden gem in the heart of the City of Wells. The Palace sits within 14 acres of RHS partner gardens, including the beautiful well pools from which the city takes its name. In the Arboretum is the newly developed "Dragon's Lair" children's playground to tire out little legs. There are daily Guided Tours, a Cafe serving delicious lunches, cakes and hot and cold drinks. Dogs are welcome on leads.

Only had a walk through the grounds but it was lovely, croquet, ducks and a great cafe with outside seating.

“Perfect for Mobility Scooters”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

This historic place is fully accessible. Our mobility scooter was able to visit every part with ease and there is a lift to reach the upper floor. There is raised decking so that scooter/wheelchair users can easily see the wells that give this town it's name. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

“Beautiful gardens”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

The palace is interesting and certainly worth a visit. The real gem, though, is the garden(s). Well worth the entry fee. We spent several hours wandering around enjoying the lovely scenarios and the general air of tranquility. Made better by the fact that you could leave and then re-enter later in the day for another bite of the cherry.

“Completely takes you out of your everyday life”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

This is a beautiful place to meander round and lose yourself in - the garden is lovely with plenty to see from sculptures to flowers and trees with the beautiful water running through it, a little waterfall, a bridge and the wells. The palace itself is also worth a look and all feels very tranquil and peaceful - highly recommended. Good wheelchair access too in grounds and a lift in the palace (electric wheelchair).

“All day ticket”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Staff very helpful, gardens a joy! Take your lunch on a sunny day and have picnic in the grounds. Lots of events at different times of the year so look out for a programme. Lovely to see some contemporary art in the gardens
