“A hidden treasure and something different”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Nestled in beautiful gardens next to Wells Cathedral this hidden treasure should not be missed. Although part ruins, it is so very atmospheric and fascinating history to be learned. There are numerous events to attend, one of which was The History of Britain in 2 hours, presented by a travelling group of players called The Pantaloons. Staged outside, take your own picnic/wine etc., or BBQ available if preferred. Full of fun, pathos and a great deal of poetic licence. Great family entertainment in a magical setting. Do give it a try. If you don't want the history bit then the cafe/restaurant does really tasty food, good coffee (amazing hot chocolate) all at very reasonable prices.

“A gem”
Reviewed 14 August 2014

What a wonderful place. Gorgeous gardens to explore and wander about, and lose yourself in. Great place to bring a picnic and just chill. There are sculptures, flowers, trees and water running through the gardens. There is children’s trail too with things to find, including the dragon! Very peaceful. See if you can find the gardens cat. There is always someone not very far away to tell you about the gardens and palace. There is a café were you can watch locals playing croquet. Ask about the swans, great story there.
There is good wheelchair access. You can re-enter the gardens if you keep your receipt, so if you want to have a wander about Wells then come back you can. Wednesdays and Saturdays are market day. The market is well worth a look. Fab gluten free stall.
