“Good in parts.”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

We were there as part of a function and stayed two nights and on the first night ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent; very tasty and beautifully served. However, on the second night (Saturday) the food served at the function was nowhere near as good. It seems that mass catering on that night failed for us anyway. If this has been an important occasion, such as a wedding, I would have been very disappointed. Also the room we had was very small although it had everything required in a hotel room - perhaps there was too much furniture to make it comfortable – we had to keep squeezing passed a piece of furniture every time we went to the bathroom! The views of the cathedral were spectacular.

My husband and I were really looking forward to our two night stay. Having stayed at many hotels over the past year we were using our reward points for some of the time, and it is one of the most expensive. Our room was on the ground floor, it was one of the smallest and most cramped we have stayed in anywhere and the decor was poor. The door lock was loose, the room looked neglected. There is no one to help with bags and there were no parking spaces available even though my husband has a blue badge. We had to drag our luggage along the road. When we arrived we were handed a sheet which said we might have to wait for breakfast because they were busy, also that there was a function that night that might be noisy. I found this very irritating bearing in mind they take your money first! We were then kept awake by people making a lot of noise outside our room at 1am, which was frustrating after a long tiring journey, as our room had a smoking area just outside our window. Why it's a Plus hotel I couldn't work out, presumably it's because of their location, certainly not the service. People were having to have breakfast in the bar and carry their food the length of the room whilst there were supervising staff standing around doing nothing. We came away disappointed, we felt as though because we were not paying the full price, the hotel staff had shoved us into the worst room they had. Would definitely not recommend.

One of the best hotels i've been to in a very long time. Managed to get a fantastic offer of two nights D B & B, in this well organised, clean, full of character hotel. Food was fabulous, service unbeatable, staff friendly, and the hotel is so well situated, right in the middle of Wells, opposite the cathedra!!! A1! Can't fault the Swan Hotel, i will be returning in the not to distant future.

I've used this hotel several times, and found the staff very friendly.
I booked for 4 nights on the first evening I was given room 25 a lovely room but having old sash windows was a little noisy from the Main Street , however I was quickly moved the following day, to a one bed apartment ... Was so quiet great just one fault no TV in the bedroom.
Food is good however I hD to return a steak which was over cooked ! School boy error on behalf the chef I guess.
Parking is tight but now it's marked out you do have to get here early for the pick of the places though.
Beds are most important not sure here although I slept well I think the mattress was a little tired.
The place is spotless and the rooms always smelt fresh .
For a lovely city like Wells it's a perfect place to stay.

A visit to Wells really is an excellent choice if you want to see a real English Cathedral city!
The Swan is a real part of it all. A good old fashioned hotel with good old fashioned standards mixed with up to date facilities.
Our room (401) was very quiet and was in the courtyard at the rear of the hotel, with 2 toilets, 2 televisions, a kitchenette and private patio area.
The staff are very relaxed, and confident in what they do, which means the hotel is a stress free zone!
The restaurant follows the pattern and serves good quality food with a good choice.
Car parking is not a real problem.
If you are going to Wells this is the place.

Room Tip: 401 is excellent, with a real walk in shower

Located directly opposite the Cathedral Green, and paces from the Market Square and High Street, this beautiful old building was a treat to stay at.
The ideal location for wandering around Wells.
Breakfast was great and speedily available despite the hotel being full.
Lunch was average but the restaurant and menu look great, and the staff attentive and helpful.

Room Tip: A short walk outside with dim lighting and lots of stairs were involved to reach our rooms. Mention...
