Stayed there over the Easter weekend and really liked it. Had the top floor room overlooking the market place. The room is spacious and full character. The view from the room is that of the marin street leading up to the cathedral/bishop's palace. There is a street market there every Saturday morning. So can be a bit noisy early on the Saturday morning but it was something I was aware of prior to booking and the noise wasn't that loud to be perfectly honest. The shower is tiny but again it's been mentioned by other reviewers before. The highlight of the hotel has to be the restaurant. The breakfast is lovely and I had dinner two nights that I was there and would highly recommend it.

We stayed for one night and we were glad we did. A lovely hotel in the heart of Wells with its own parking. This hotel in an excellent place to stay if you want to visit the Cathedral or just have a walk around wells. The room we had overlooked the market square and was very comfortable. We decided to eat at the hotel and we were so glad we did. The food was exceptional and we'll definitely stop by again in the future. Breakfast was also very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Market day can be noisy early in the morning, so bare this in mind when selecting your room.

This is a very reasonably priced hotel in the heart of Wells, with parking, nice bar, attached restaurant and handy for looking round Wells. The accommodation is good and reasonably priced and the staff are friendly and helpful. All in all a great place to stay with the added benefit of Hot Fuss being filmed there !

We happened across this inn when we were visiting Wells Abbey. The inn is very centrally located right next to the abbey and centre of Wells. Parking, wi-fi and breakfast are included in the reasonable accommodation rate.

Our room (no 1) looked over the carpark and was above Penn Bar but we did not hear very much noise at all even though it was a busy Thursday night. The room was spacious with a four poster bed, complimentary bottled water and a 2 person sofa. The bathroom was generous, shower gave out good pressure and shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and hand wash were provided from a local supplier and were of good quality.

If you would like to eat dinner at the inn there were two options, Anton’s Bstrot or the more relaxed Penn Bar. We ate dinner at the Penn bar and it was very tasty, reasonably priced and staff were friendly and pleasant. One of our party is a vegetarian and there were a variety of options available.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant area with a variety of juices, cereals, fruit, punnets of yoghurt and hot options were served to order. Serving staff were very polite and we didn’t have to wait long for our cooked breakfast which was a generous serving with the eggs just as we had asked for them.

Given the proximity to the abbey and centre of town The Crown is very convenient and affordable.

Had lunch on march 5, 2012. It was very quiet in the restaurant at first but rather noisy mothers & small children in the bar. Service was adequate but disinterested. However the food was really nice and the lunch deal was v good value. And best of all - I didn't have to pick bits of horrible raw onion out of the salad!

The whole place just needs a bit of cheering up!

I stayed at The Crown at Wells in February with a friend. This hotel has so much to give! It's location is very central, being situated in the market square. All amenities are only a short walk away. There is a market on a Saturday. The hotel provides ear plugs as you can be woken by the market sellers setting up around 5am! In Wells there's plenty to do for a weekend and from this hotel you can walk to the shops, charity shops, pubs, restaurants, the cathedral and other tourist attractions. Free car parking too!

We had a double room. It was spacious with an en-suite. In the room was an alarm clock, fan, heater, hair dryer, TV with DVD player but no phone (not sure if this matters to anyone anymore?). They also supply plenty of towels, and toiletries, Our room was directly above the bar/restaurant so got a little busy at night but this didn't worry us as we were out and about until late anyway.

Breakfast was included in the room price. Vegetarian cooked breakfast is offered! We didn't eat in the restaurant but had a look at the menu and it looked lovely!

If you are planning a trip to Wells, I would recommend this hotel!

A charming Inn with a great location set in the heart of Wells with a fantastic market right outside and beautiful cathedral next door. Reception staff welcoming, four poster bed room with plenty of room and old worldly character, well equipped with complimentary tea/coffee and bottled water, flat screen TV, and good en-suite with excellent multi-jet shower facility. Superb breakfast with cereals, fruits, yoghurt's and juices to start followed by a full and excellent quality English breakfast with what you can only describe as super meaty sausages, and all served by genuine friendly and attentive staff. Our evening meal was also a delight from start to finish, good choices, superb quality food and again well presented genuinely attentive staff (good on yer young lady, the service was fair dinkum eh) we told her she was well worth a mention. It was also nice to have an Inn with a good sized bar area with some atmosphere serving decent tea and coffee during the day, and to have a pleasant pre dinner drink in the evening. Constructive criticism if I may, the carpet in the bar area is very tired, although I realise its quite a busy area both day and night, and whilst there were more than enough staff behind the bar, the tables didn't get cleared of cups and or glasses and cleaned with perhaps the attention and speed between customers. The staff serving in the bar were in the main well presented, friendly and attentive, although one or two perhaps were not to the standard of the others shall we say. It's refreshing to see the management of this business listening to their customers, genuinely taking an interest, and acting where they can to better their facilities. And may I say to the concerned light sleepers of this world regarding comments from other earlier reviewers regarding noise from the early morning market stall erectors and or noise from the bar area at night, the ear plugs provided work well and give you a perfect nights sleep, so no need to unduly worry. Overall an excellent experience staying here and one that we would highly recommend and many thanks to the staff and management that made it all happen, hope to see you all again soon.

Room Tip: Simply ask the management about any concerns you have regarding comments from other reviewers before...
