Wells is a lovely place to visit even in the rain
The Cathedral is beautiful but they expect you to pay £6 adult donation entry fee which we thought very expensive and have never come across this before?
The surrounding area is great and the town is worth a visit.
The cathedral inside is outstanding

Buildings like this always make me wonder what impression they had on the peasants.

It is at the centre of a very compact city.

Wells has to be up there in my top five cathedrals in England. Amazing setting, stunning architecture, wonderful sense of tranquillity when the choir was practising late afternoon. We signed up for the "High Parts" tour, one and a half hours "behind the scenes", amazingly informative guides, visiting parts of the cathedral high up that you wouldn't see otherwise, a great insight into how the cathedral was built. If you're anywhere near Wells , you must visit

Wells Cathedral is a must see when visiting the area. Located through an archway in the top left hand corner of the market square.

The cathedral is entry by voluntary donations which you hand to someone on a desk at the entrance. The building is absolutely stunning and the architecture interesting and quite different in places. The sunlight pours through the stained glass windows lighting up the building and leaving the glass reflections on the paving stones. The flower arrangements are very beautiful and located in some interesting spots (whoever does the arrangements should be commended as they are so fitting for the environment).

We visited at approximately 3pm and the queue was short and fast moving, not too busy. A very serene and relaxing experience. Well worth a look.
