It was like stepping back in time walking into the close and it's just a stones throw from the cathedral and town - make sure you pay it a visit!

The chimneys on the front facades are the most immediately noticeable feature of the Close. Then the regularity of the houses themselves, then to variations on the theme, and actually, if you look carefully, the houses are all different in size and with different armorial shields in each bay, and in the end, each house is not the same as its neighbour.

Walking up the close is like taking a step back in time. The houses are beautiful and uniform, the cobbled street very quaint. It's a two minute walk from the Cathedral which also acts as a backdrop. Definitely worth a walk to get a glimpse of what the city could have been like back in the day.
It's a shame that cars are allowed on the street as it really detracts from the feel of the place.

This is well worth a visit to see how the cottages were built, the garden gates which most of them look the same, and the chimneys are a bonus.

Despite the visible mod cons and occasional children's toy, this quiet cobbled close is still very reminiscent of medieval times. It helps that you will still see men in robes scurrying over to the cathedral, even if they are shod in brogues or Reeboks underneath!
Quaint cottages, fascinating architecture on a more down-to-earth scale than its immediate neighbour. Well worth a poke about.
