Description: Refurbished & re-launched by new owners (January 2017). Sadler's Brasserie is the relaxed informal restaurant. Head Chef, Jason Porter has taken the reins at the Sadler's Brasserie! He will now use his extensive and renowned culinary skills to make Sadler’s Brasserie on Sadler Street one of the go-to destination restaurants in the West Country. Having gained rave reviews as head chef of the New Inn, in Cerne Abbas, Dorset, Jason is hoping his well-crafted textures, delightful flavours and excellent presentation will win over foodies and locals looking for an honest and well-priced dining experience. Originally from Wells, Jason discovered his passion for cooking while working at Ritcher’s Restaurant (now Goodfellows) in Wells where his natural ability and drive resulted in him becoming head chef by the age of 18. With a clear vision of what he wanted and need to widen his knowledge he then applied for a position at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant at Claridges. Having impressed the team he was offered a position at The Connaught, the five-star Mayfair hotel where the celebrity chef had taken over the food and beverage.

“OK But Wouldnt Rush Back”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

Went here on the spur of the moment as we had booked Rugatinos and they changed their menu for the worse.
Had a nice meal, a bit overpriced for what it was, but the food was nice and the service good.

“Lovely food and lovely staff”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

We took a 2 night break in the Wells area and being organised decided to book different restaurants for both evenings in advance. We dined in Brufanis restaurant at The White Hart on Tuesday 20th and enjoyed such a lovely meal served by lovely friendly staff that we cancelled our table elsewhere for the Wednesday and came back. I started both meals with the Duck Liver Parfait which was superb; lovely smooth and tasty. My hubby chose the Ribs on Tuesday and Tempura Prawns on Wednesday and both were lovely. The restaurant has a lovely selection of steaks and their own Gourmet Burgers as well traditional favourites and a lovely Pizza board. All meals were superb, the burger I had on Tuesday was lovely served with blue cheese and caramelised onion relish while my husband had the Rib Eye steak was fabulous, juicy and well cooked (he chose medium rare), so tender. On Weds I had the Pizza which was amazing, made to order topped with a selection of meats and I also added artichokes and olives. It was huge and completely gorgeous. My husband chose the Chicken Pie which again was just superb, served with triple cooked chips and salad, great.

Prices were very reasonable and service was excellent. This place is top of our list to return to when next in the area. Highly recommended.

“£9.50 for 2 courses - good value”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

On market day in Wells (after an excellent walking tour and before a lovely walk round the Bishop's Palace - see separate reviews), we were looking for somewhere to eat when we saw this offer advertised near the conduit in the Market Place. Having forgotten to consult Tripadvisor before we went, we thought we'd give it a try, and were very pleased that we had - although we nearly turned round and walked out when we saw that there were only three tables occupied at lunch time! I can't understand why. The room was light and airy and nicely decorated with a view of the cathedral gate, the service was prompt, the waitresses pleasant and helpful and the food nicely presented, plentiful and appetising. Nothing to complain about!

There was a choice of starter - soup or pate - followed by a choice of one/two of three meats (beef, pork and turkey - thick and tasty), with Yorkshire pudding, roast and new potatoes, carrots, peas and sweetcorn, cauliflower cheese and carrot and swede, sauces and gravy. All served with a smile.

I believe this offer is not always on during the week, so it would be wise to check first, but their usual menus seem reasonable - a traditional roast dinner with free soft drink for £7.95 - with lots of other well-priced choices. Our experience was very good. Try for yourself and then let the rest of the world know YOUR opinion!

“A hidden gem? Saturday lunch for 9/10- well behaved hen/stag lunch.”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

We had a good lunch for 9-10, on a sunny Saturday, in June. It was good to be in a cool, convivial atmosphere. We had booked for 10 people but one person had had a BIG breakfast and therefore did not want lunch. There were plenty of lovely looking pizzas on offer but no one went for them!
Most people had the burgers. I went for the beef roast dinner, minus the gravy and the Yorkshire pudding, as I am going gluten free, at the moment.
The White Hart is opposite the Cathedral Green, in Wells, and is strategic for visits to the Cathedral, Bishops' Palace and Vicars' Close, all within a few hundred metres' walk.
