Description: We're one of Wells' oldest and most central pubs, occupying an early-14th century building right in the middle of the High St. Whether you're looking for a light lunch, a hearty dinner, a quiet drink with friends, some of the best cask ales in the city or a lively weekend night out, we have it all!Give us a try on your visit to Wells, you won't be disappointed! Please note: TripAdvisor hasn't yet got a 'pub' category, so we're listed as a 'restaurant'. Whilst we serve fantastic, locally sourced and freshly prepared food, we are still a real, local pub at heart and our menu is therefore real pub grub done well, along with al of the other great things you'd expect from a fantastic local...

I worked locally there and numerous times i would have lunch there, the food is nice and big portions, the beer is fresh and the staff are friendly, also there is great atmosphere in the evening for a drink as well.

We stopped here for drinks on the last afternoon of our holiday, the pub has free internet and the drink prices are reasonable. The pub was quiet and staff polite and helpful.

Found this place while asking the locals where to have lunch. Turned out to be a lovely pub with yummy food. They serve their real ales from the cask which is a plus. Had 2 lovely pints. There were 4 of us so we tried 3 different sandwiches and the all day English breakfast. They were all yummy and of good value. My bacon, brie & cranberry sandwich was out of this world.

The pub itself is cosy and clean. Service is quick and attentive. Great stop to and fro Cheddar Gorge.

The King's Head has been our favourite pub in Wells during our visit to England. Staff is very polite and friendly. The pool is a plus and we had great time playing and drinking and listening to good music (there's a Jukebox as well). We didn't have any meals because they were recruiting and training a new staff but it was good anyway. Moreover there was a sign that due to this problem you could consume your own food in the pub! Such a good service! We reccomend it!

We had a very nice lunch, typical pub fare. Found it a bit odd when we returned on Friday night for an evening meal to be told no food on Fridays.

Hi, thanks for the nice review. But just to clarify about our food serving hours; we'd love to serve evening food and we used to serve food from midday to 9pm every day of the week, but declining trade in Wells across the last couple of years eventually made it unviable, in spite of us trying many initiatives, so we ultimately had to make the decision to serve lunchtimes only. You may also have noticed during your visit that many other restaurants in Wells are closed in the evening (unless they have prior bookings). We hope to expand our serving times again once the economy picks up!
