“Good food”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We stayed in Wells one night and were surprised to find so many places closed on a Thursday - Anton's was a spur of the moment choice. We both had burgers - very good meat, huge portions. Service was good.

We're pleased you enjoyed your meal with us. All our burgers are local produce and that is reflected in the taste.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

“Good food and very nice staff”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

It was a Sunday night, and every other place in town that wasn't closed was booked full. We were about to get our car from the B&B and go look for a McDonald's when the barman at the Crown (the pub that contains Anton's) took pity on us and showed us to a surprisingly quiet table in a corner. He warned us that food service would be slow, because they were so full of other guests, but we ordered cold platters (smoked fish, charcuterie, and cheese) and the food came surprisingly fast. It all was very good, and we enjoyed the local beers and cider.

Thank you for your review
Though we say so ourselves, our food is great, and we're glad you stayed with us in the bar and enjoyed your meal.
We're delighted to hear you didn't venture to MacDonalds!

“A SPUR OF THE MOMENT VISIT”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We drove down to Wells cutting short a shopping trip to Bath which was rained off and were lucky on market day to be able to park close to the centre. Lunch was required and an examination of the menu outside tempted us in to the Bistrot.

The menu is extensive and good value for money and there was no shortage of friendly staff to find us a table. We just needed a light main course and we both ordered a Duck Breast with a sort of Jus accompanied with French Beans and Croquette Potatoes. The whole plate was nicely presented and the Duck Breasts cooked to a perfect pink. A glass of a house spanish red wine went well with the dish which we enjoyed immensely although with the meat having been sliced only into 3 pieces a steak knife would have helped - my fault for not asking for one.

Two americanos came as a cafetiere of great coffee with hot milk on the side.

The kitchen was very busy with looking after bar food as well and plates of good food were coming out of the kitchen at a pace. We had great service from a very friendly team and would come here again.

“The menu could use some extension...”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

I ate in here as I was staying at the hotel and thought the restaurant/bar area had a really nice feel about it.
You'd struggle with kids a little as it's only really catering for the finer diners in my opinion.
The menu is slightly limited so when one or two dishes aren't available (as I found out) it can be a bit of a problem.
Some portions, on seeing them taken to tables, looked better value than others but you really can't fault the quality of it. The steak I had was one of the best I've had in a long, long time.
The puddings were worth checking out too. Had it been somewhere else I may have been a little more picky but it was an experience as much as anything, and personally my meal was very nice indeed.

Thank you for your foodie review.
We're sorry to hear you were not taken with the children's menu. We put it together to try and steer away from the standard fare on other children's menu, offering something locally sourced and freshly prepared.
We are sorry your meal did not meet your expectations.

“Very Frustrated”
Reviewed 25 May 2014 via mobile

We decided to eat here after looking at the menu outside, which clearly stated that two courses were available for £10 on Sundays between 6pm and 7th. As we were well within that time slot, we decided to eat here.
We found a table and took a menu to find out what dishes were covered by this offer.
Unfortunately the menu gave no details, so I went to the bar to find out.
To my astonishment, I was told that the offer wasn't available as it was a Sunday that was part of a Bank Holiday. The bar staff called over the manager as I was clearly frustrated by this. The manager suggested that there was a note outside about this limitation (I looked afterwards and there wasn't).
The manager said that the chef had a specific set of dishes for this menu and hadn't purchased the necessary ingredients. It was also suggested that suppliers being closed over the weekend meant that the offers couldn't be made. I didn't understand this as everything else on the menu was available.
The manager was not prepared to give a discount on anything else on the menu in light of the situation.
We ordered from the rest of the menu, but the attitude of the place over this unfulfilled offer spoilt the meal.
The food was OK, although the fries were over salty for my palate.
Portions were of a good size.
Disappointing overall experience.

Your experience with us should have been much more positive and we're truly sorry.
The offer menu is not available on bank holiday weekends and we're sorry that was unclear.
We can only apologise for your understandable frustration.
