Best Western Lichfield City Centre The George Hotel

We stayed over after an exhibition opening. The room was huge with a four poster bad an complimentary chocolates (which always helps)

Friendly staff who were only too happy to help, great breakfast and really clean place.
The location is really central and ideal with a car park just out back.

Give it a try but be a bit wary of the noise from the night club opposite if you stay on the weekend.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel opposite the night club on the corner are a little loud at weeke...

My wife and I stayed for one night recently.the hotel was clean and the room acceptable with a large bed and extra pillows and blanket available the air conditioning worked well but was a bit noisy for overnight use.
The evening meal in the dining room was to a good standard although the new waiting staff needed training.

Location in centre of town ideal for exploring .

The George Hotel in Lichfield offer an afternoon tea and lunch menu.
The afternoon tea itself coming in at a cost of £10.00 per person.

Following some confusion over the booking (this was my error) we settled on 4 Soups of the Day, two of which, we ordered to come with sandwiches, plus 2 cream teas

The soup was cream of cauliflour and was absolutely gorgeous. The soup had a kick to it also and was devine. In addition the 2 soups that didn't come with sandwiches had a choice of either a white or brown roll.

The afternoon tea itself, was a decoratively shaped tray but in the shape of a picnic bench. There were three halves in sandwiches each for me and my partner, I.e. three whole sandwiches, culminating in egg, beef with horseradish and salmon.

This to be fair was a surprise to me (I don't know much about afternoon tea), as I didn't know sandwiches came with afternoon tea.

In addition there were a nice selection of cakes. These comprised of fruit cake, a scone with cream, and a custard style tart, and this acquainted to one half each for me and my partner.

So to the bill which wasn't bad for the soups. The afternoon teas were £10 each. Now I was impressed with the cakes, however on reflection, maybe £10 for 3 cakes, tea and 1 and a half sandwiches is a little high, but the main thing is it was enjoyed.

Staff wise, I must give a mention to a gentleman whom was
actually behind the bar, and wasn't actually serving us initially. I had spoken to him about a request. He was helpful, professional and very customer focused in my opinion.

Overall the atmosphere was quiet and the ambience a typical hotel with pleasant decor.

So why 3 star? I'd base this on value for money on reflection.

My husband and I visited just for lunch as we were in the area working. Staff looked hard working and were friendly. The courtyard looked great with lovely flowers and was well maintained. We enjoyed some sandwiches and chips with a coffee. Lovely place. Great location right off the high street. Recommend a visit.

We chose this hotel, as we were attending a wedding nearby, we decided to make a weekend of it and stayed 2 nights. The location was perfect for us, right in the Center of Lichfield, The hotel itself is a quirky building with creaking floor boards, and lots of character, the water pressure is great, for bathing and showering.

All the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Our only slight issues were, both nights there was a wedding at the hotel, first night the music was very loud, until just after midnight, our mother in law (83) was offered another room, which she declined as the music went off just after midnight, second night was fine. Both weddings have there own bar, however during a break they all come down to the hotel bar and seem to take over, leaving residents uncomfortable and feeling we were in the way, maybe look at waitress service for residents not attending the weddings.

Breakfast was very good, buffet style, again staff very polite, slight issue 3 on our table of 5 ordered poached eggs, prior to selecting other items off the buffet, unfortunately all the eggs came on one plate, full of water, it was then left to us to go up find 3 more plates and try to split the eggs on to our own plates, we gave up, and choose other items.

All in all the very small issues did not spoil our stay, we would stay here again if back in Lichfield.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the wedding venue, due to noise, we had a standard double room which was mor...

We booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package for an overnight stay in Lichfield. The weather was awful so we checked in early, the reception were very helpful and we only waited a few minutes for our room to be available. The evening meal was the highlight of the visit - the staff were friendly and attentive and the menu was outstanding. We would definitely return here if we were in the area.
