We stayed here in December and it was a very mixed experience. Throughout the booking we received excellent service and I would say the staff went out of their way to be helpful. We had advised that we would be taking the train to visit the Christmas Market at Birmingham. On arrival we were offered coffee and toast on the house whilst we waited for our room to be ready (we were early) which was most unexpected and welcome. Back at the hotel in the evening we went downstairs to eat, it wasn't busy but we waited sometime to get a drink and then order our food, again the drinks were provided on the house. We chose to eat our meal in the restaurant but the food wasn't ready for for over an hour from ordering and unfortunately when it arrived it was dreadful - overcooked/burnt and my partners meal not even what he had ordered, he sent his meal back and another eventually arrived not so burnt but still not as ordered. I think the service problem was because one lady seemed to be doing reception, bar, food orders and waiting on tables. The rooms were okay, a little tired and it took us some time to get the tv to work and when we used the shower the whole bathroom shook and there was a terrible noise. Neither of us dared risk a cooked breakfast after our food experience the night before. The next day we walked into Lichfield to do some shopping, the hotel allowing us to leave our car in their car park until we were ready to leave for the journey home. It is a well situated hotel and very reasonably priced but such a shame it was let down by the food and a few defects in the room because in other areas they went way above the call of duty. Sadly this has put us off visiting here again.

I am very sorry to hear of your mixed experience at The Cathedral Lodge Hotel, we pride ourselves on customer service as you can see by the welcome you were given on arrival and through out your stay at the hotel. We are an independent family run hotel and we treat all our guests the same as if they are part our family and friends. We welcome early or late departure when we can with no extra charge and take great satisfaction in offering a welcome drink on us to help guests relax in our comfortable bar. We are therfore extremely sorry to hear of your dinning experience we have changed head chef since your stay and are 100% confident that this insident would not happen again. As for the staff racio it was an extremley quite night over the Christmas period and the member of Staff on duty assures me she was well able to deal the bar and restaurant on her own. I have spoken to her and she did feel she divided her time equally that night. I do apoligise if you did feel that you should have received more attention and the time delay it took for your food to arrival was not acceptable at all. As this was not brought to our attention on departure I can not investigate the plumbing described but conclude that it could have been a result of cold weather and the result of pipes freezing over the festive period I offer you my sincere apoligises and if you would like to contact me at the hotel I would be happy to discuss these matters further with you.

Stayed one night b&b with New Year buffet and disco included, excellent value ! Could not fault the staff very eager to please, food good quality, drinks at bar were priced well no silly inflated prices, we were in a party of six others ( family ) our room was on the second floor which is in need of refurbishing but was found to be very clean and comfortable, the other members of our party were on the first floor in rooms which had been refurbished to a very high standard, let's hope the hotel intends to carry on with the refurbishment programme, we would definitely return to this hotel and recommend to friends and family.

Only stayed one night at the Lodge, but must say I found it an enjoyable experience. The Hotel is clean and tidy, if a little on the old fashioned side (you still get a key to the rooms) The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help when needed. The room was very nice and clean, with a comfortable bed. We didn't have an evening meal there, but the breakfast was super, with a nice choice, plus a glass of complimentary champagne.
The Hotel is located just a short walk from the cathedral and the city centre so ideal for a short break.

ok will do the bad then the good... Bad the carpet needed a second run over, the top of the drawers needed rubbing down they were well worn. the bathroom shower was a disappointment... the shower door was grubby... But this did not make us leave the staff were friendly the room was comfortable big and with more than enough wardrobe and drawer space.. There was ample tea/coffee with biscuits and bottled water. the TV was a good size and positioned well. The bath was deep and long the bathroom was immaculate (except the shower door).. The bed was comfortable with plenty extra pillows and blankets in the wardrobe.. the breakfast was fantastic again so much choice and staff were friendly... will 100% be back...
