Just got back from a two night stay at Swinfen Hall. First impressions going up the drive to this hotel was "impressive".
We were not dissapointed.
First of all, do not take any notice of any review saying that the staff are no good. THEY ARE EXCELLENT !!!
Nothing was too much trouble and they were very helpful indeed.
We went on a secret escapes deal and the price I felt was reasonable for the room we stayed in.It was called " The Holmes Room ". Though I do feel that the "proper" price that they apparently charge would be a tad excessive for such a room.
On saying that , it was warm, comfy & oodles of HOT water. The bed was very comfy indeed.
The room service was up with the best I have ever experienced.
In my humble opinion, the only drawback was the restaurant & the bar menu's.
The restaurant menu was a set 3 course affair with , it appears, no flexibility, which is designed as a gastronomic "experience".
Not everyone wants a "gastronomic experience". We just wanted food, and not necessarily 3 courses.
So we were guided to the Bar menu. This consisted of several baguette sandwich affairs and the only real hot offering was fish & chips.
That though is my only complaint of this otherwise lovely place.
It is set in stunning grounds and is very handy for a 5 minute drive into Lichfield.
