Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel
Ranked #8 of 11 Hotels in Stafford
Reviewed 22 December 2013

It's ok! Have stayed in worse, and better.
Rooms being refurbished, they desperately need to renew the mattresses.
Lift is like stepping back to the seventies.
Staff are very sweet but lack any decent experience.
Dinner was ok but breakfast was fantastic, simply the best bacon I have ever had.
So despite a few negatives, ( fire alarm going off at 10.30 with no apology) they are obviously making a huge effort to bring the place up to date for which throb must be encouraged.
Yes I would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Thank you for your feedback. Since your stay we have had a new lift installed as part of our £1m refurbishment program. All the mattresses in the bedrooms are currently in the process of being changed. It’s great that you liked our breakfast, we have recently recruited a new head chef, so I am sure he will take very kindly to the comments you made. We also apologise that our fire alarm was activated during your stay, but we are pleased that the system works. We also like to see that you said you would return which is great! We really do hope you visit us again soon, especially to see the improvements that have been made.

Stayed here in October 2013. Room was very comfortable with a decent nights sleep. A comfortable bar and pleasant dining room. I dined at the hotel in the evening and found the meal to be very good. Staff were well informed and pleasant at all times. On the whole, a very pleasant stay and would go again.

Room Tip: A quiet hotel in a busy location.

Numerous visits to Tillington on business leaves me wondering why we keep returning, only reason I can presume is the location, a couple of minutes off the M6.
Never busy, staff appear disinterested. The meeting rooms are so dull and the refreshments match , Would never spend any of my own cash at such an unwelcoming hotel

Dear Guest
Thank you for your review I am sorry that the hotel did not meet your expectations. Sometimes we do get things wrong but rest assured with your feedback we will certainly try much harder in the future. Did you know that the hotel is undergoing a £1m refurbishment and a re-branding exercise and will soon be a Best Western Hotel? The hotel also has a brand new management team who are installing traditional values into the hotel. I would love that the next time you visit Stafford you pop in and see what we have done and how good we really can be.

Read some reviews, checked their website, --"in administration in March"--- but we'd booked and as it was a reunion-- kept our fingers crossed that it wouldn't be too bad!
IT WAS FINE! Good quality food, rooms being refurbished, excellent, excellent staff who were trying to make our stay as pleasant as possible. OK there was a temporary glitch with a lift, but the engineer was on site quickly and I'd happily go there again

Have just returned from a Navy Reunion, and have nothing but praise for the Hotel and the friendly staff. Room was clean and tidy, I needed an extension lead for my medical machine- placed in the room while we were out. Without exception, I found all staff friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay there again if in the area.

Room Tip: Use the old fashioned method,(telephone) and TALK to them before confirming your booking

Stayed here for two nights from 4th October as part of a group. O.K. the hotel is somewhat careworn but it does not pretend to be 5 star and is priced accordingly. The bedroom was fine though a little warm and the food more than acceptable The staff without exception were first class. I have stayed here before and would have no hesitation in staying again

It was OK. Room ticked all the boxes except for TV not working - Not just mine, something to do with "atmospherics" and the dish needing adjusting but couldn't be done till morning as dark. Clean throughout. Bit dated in places. Had conference facilities booked as well. Again OK but never ceases to amaze me that when hotels set up a projector/ screen that they don't understand the projector actually needs to be more than a couple of feet from the screen to get a PowerPoint presentation bigger than a postage stamp :-) location lets the hotel down a bit - I was a little concerned when arriving and parked in the car park to see half a dozen teenagers in hoodies loitering and smoking a few yards from the car park. Ate in the bar, when the Barman actually reappeared to take the order. That happened a few times whilst in the bar ! Scampi and Chips was ok. Arriving for Breakfast, after a couple of minutes "Wait here to be seated" and nobody appeared to take my room number and do so, I just helped myself and when the waitress reappeared offered my room number. Breakfast was the unfortunately common unappetising hot selection that had been there for some time, scrambled egg that looked to be the powdered variety etc I saw from the website that the hotel is in administration ? Need to improve standards and service to turn that around ? Will look for somewhere else next time I need to stay in the area.

Dear Alan
Since the time that you visited us we have under gone some major changes. We have had a £1 million refurbishment. The refurbishment has covered all guest bedrooms, meeting space and also the public areas which will be completed in May 2014. We have also had a new head chef with all new menu’s and hopefully if you come back to stay with us you will see that the breakfast has improved. We will also retrain our staff so guests are not waiting around for our help. I can assure you that Tillington Hall Hotel is a safe place to stay, we have round the clock CCTV. The hotel does have a very good relationship in the local community and I can assure you that there is not issues at all at the hotel. Hopefully in the future you will return to see the changes that have been made.
