this was our first visit to the saracens head, there where 4 of us and we are eating and drinking our way around some of staffords recommended pubs, and we found a a gem here, from the welcome we got from the cheerful barmaid to the thank you goodbye from the owner, and in between was great as well, the staff here are fantastic, helpful attentive and friendly, now to the food, we couldn't decide on starters so we ordered 6 lol, we went for the crab cakes, 2 fish coujons, soup and pate, we all tried them and found them to be lovely, especially the fish which was white and fluffy with a lovely crisp batter and homemade tartar sauce, we had pre-ordered two of the mains over the phone when booking because they didn't have filet steak on the menu, but they kindly had it bought in by their butcher on saturday morning, and our guests said it was one of the best they had ever tasted, i had the enormous battered cod because i was so impressed with the starters, it came with hand cut chips mushy peas and tartar sauce,my friends wife had the belly pork with chips and 3 veg and proclaimed it excellent, because we had pigged out on all that food there was only 2 of us able to eat desserts, we had treacle lattice with home made custard and a dish of 3 scoops of ice cream, all in all we had a fantastic night and will be returning in the future, thanks again guys

We visited this pub/restaurant early Sunday evening as a family, 3 of us had the Sunday roast and one of us ate off the main menu, it has to be said the starters were fine, if a little bland, and the desserts were very enjoyable, however, the 'roast beef' was the most dreadful excuse for a roast dinner, we all had the roast beef which consisted of sliced processed beef, roast potatoes that had obviously been kicking about in the oven far too long as they were now hollow and vegetables that were so undercooked it was obvious they'd barely been shown the boiling water! The one of us who ate off the main menu had Gammon and chips which she found most enjoyable...........

Dear Gina L,
Let me begin by saying how disappointed I was to hear you felt our Sunday roast was of poor quality, as we work constantly to source the highest quality local ingredients where possible. Indeed our suppliers of the beef you refer to is Perry’s of Eccelshall butchers, who are recognised locally to provide ourselves & many other customers with red tractor quality assured meat.
Our sourced beef is then slow cooked by our experienced chef’s, before being hand carved with a sharp knife to produce a beautiful slice of roast meat. I can therefore assure you that any roast meat served here is not of the processed variety, as you feared. To complement this meat our chef’s work hard to produce fresh hand mashed potatoes, roast potatoes slowly cooked in the aforementioned beef dripping, oversized homemade Yorkshire puddings, fresh vegetables and pan gravy.
I do hope you can appreciate how much time, effort and genuine care our chef’s put into making what we feel is a wonderful Sunday roast. I realise however that everybody has their own ideas of how a roast should be made and served; highlighted by the age old debate of soft versus al dente vegetables. We do of course often cater for any special dietary requests, and hope that should return to our restaurant you will not hesitate to make us aware of any preferences.
May I once again say how sorry I was to learn of your disappointment in our Sunday roast, and thank you for your comments which I have of course shared with our chef’s. I hope that this reply will go some way to allay any concerns you may have had re the quality of our beef, and would only be too happy to answer any further questions you may have if you wish to contact myself directly on 01889 270286.
Kindest regards,
Barbara Swift
