“new years eve gala dinner”
Reviewed 3 January 2013

new years eve at the north stafford hotel for 5 course meal entertainment with diana ross cover artist lovely food excellent staff attention to detail quick efficient service surprised at the quality of the food which can be a bit sub standard on new years eve but was very pleased piping hot food tasty and plenty of it. would give 5 out of 5 but for one thing the music although excellent was far too loud especially whilst eating the meal. other than that i would have no hesitation to book again next year. not cheap at 45 pound but considering the whole package worth the money.

We were booked into this hotel as part of a coach trip over New Year, too late I checked this site and read some really bad reviews so wondered what would await us; we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff, food excellent and plentiful, so it is old and could do with a touch up in places but it more than made up for that in the excellent service provided; Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: We were three females and had a family room, (233) which was great, plenty of space.

Stayed at this hotel just a few days before New Year (27th Dec). Booked via booking.com - got a good price for a double room - £29 on the day of arrival - bargain! Stayed at this hotel previously, on this occasion, everything was perfectly fine. I stayed in room 219. The room had tea making facilities, decent older style TV, wardrobe, trouser press, comfortable double bed with crisp clean white sheets. You'll need to ask if you need a normal iron. The bathroom was quite large (size of a box room), a little dated but perfectly acceptable, with an over bath shower. Sometimes staying at this hotel, it can be quite noisy with late night events often booked in, which means folk partying into the early hours - 2/3am. Also, you have to pay a £2 card fee whether you pay with a credit or debit card. This is not always mentioned when booking through hotel websites. The hotel looks lovely in the pictures but it is a little dated, tired and worn inside. I only stay here if i can get a decent price (£29 -£40 rooms). If the price is £40+ i usually try the budget chains instead which i can book for £36-£50 on most occasions. The hotel is located directly opposite the train station which is a plus. However, the town centre (Hanley) is about 20-25 minutes walk or 10 minute bus ride. There is nothing in the direct vicinity to visit/see as the hotel is located in a mostly residential area and University area. Given how large and winding the hotel is, there is no wi fi in the rooms (dec 12), only available in public areas which i've never tried. Check out is 11am. Didn't try the breakfast on this occasion, although on previous stays it was a rather basic hot breakfast, better value and quality going into Hanley town centre or Festival Park, a local retail park (10 minute drive). If you need a refund or anything out of the ordinary, the night/evening reception is rather basic as often staffed by a single night porter, who would need to leave instructions for the duty manager for the next morning/day to resolve any refund issues/complaints. Oh, there is a large car park at the rear with a barrier and pay signs, however, on the last 2 occasions, the barrier was up, and on checking with reception, there was no payment due or charge made - but always check as the car park is operated by national car parks who may end up sending you a bill after you leave if they ever install automatic cameras! A perfectly fine 3 star hotel for a short stay if you get a good price, but nothing special and in my opinion not worth £70/80 rate per night stays!

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before you pay/when you arrive. If there are events going on and you can hear...

Having a wonderful break here for Christmas. Room is small, but clean and comfy (room 121). TV is fine - but bring a length of co-ax if, as we did, you want to put the telly on the dressing table so you can both see it - but that's not really a complaint. Food is great, staff are wonderful -Andrew the restaurant manager is SO lovely and our young waiter Mike is a real sweetie. I just wish we could come back next year. As long as you are realistic, you won't be disappointed. You're not paying Hilton prices, but you get good old fashioned service from people who really do seem to remember what service means! Oh, and make sure you check out the listed Gents toilets down in the cellar - a weird recommendation I know but the bits of tiling I saw are absolutely beautiful - no, I'm not joking, they really are listed and a stunning example of ? Edwardian/Victorian ? architecture and design. I love this place and am SO glad that we ignored the reviews. Big thank you to the team for giving us a lovely Christmas.

I booked this hotel at short notice and got a very good rate via booking.com. On check it, the staff were fantastic and even let me check in early. The room was decent and very clean, the main thing that lets the hotel down is the breakfast service... it's very plain and basic- poorly laid out and not what you would hope or expect.

If indeed you don't mind breakfast it's a great hotel to stay at- the location is unbeatable and the staff were great! Certainly my hotel of choice the next time I come home!!!

Room Tip: Ask for advice if disabled or struggle with stairs!
