Absolutley terrible
Room was awful stains running down the wall, bathroom had black mould round the bath, dinner was nasty, waiter was very rude, we didnt get our bottle of wine until we had finished our meal, crowd of yobs took over lounge singing at the top of their voices, came to bed early just to get the night over with, would not recomend this place until under new management.

I travel to stoke every 4 or 5 months on business and can honestly say, I dread it! The city centre is perhaps the worst in England and there is literally nowhere to eat...not even a chain! The location isn't bad of you travel by train and parking is only £3. Behind the poor staff, poor food, poor cleanliness - there is a good hotel deep down, you can tell this used to be a grand building many years ago

Good points:
1. Exactly opposite to Stoke-on-Trent train station. Easy access for train customers.
2. Ample car parking spaces; £3.00 per day
3. Good breakfast
4. You may get better offers like "winter sale rooms" that includes breakfast (otherwise it is around £9) on their website (Britannia Hotels) compared to booking via third party websites.
5. Sleep quality good.
6. Bar available.

Not so good:
1. Rooms look bit worn out
2. Staff are good but could be better if they smile a bit and make us feel they are approachable
3. Paying the full rate (regular price) for your stay is not value for money. Go for discounted rate but the discounted rates are not refundable.

We stayed here for a four day Christmas Break and were pleasantly surprised. Considering they were working over Christmas the staff were absolutely brilliant from reception to our departure. Viewed from the station opposite (which was closed for two days) the building is quite impressive, particularly at night when it is floodlit. It has to be said that apart from the station there is nothing much around except for University buildings, which of course were closed for the duration. There is a canal close by but the weather didn't help for a pleasant walking experience, although we did cover a few miles along it.
Our room was quite large and pleasant (we had upgraded) with a splendid view of the station opposite. A couple of negatives here in that we never did find out how the shower operated and although we did ask for help it was never forthcoming. Still a few cold showers.never harmed anyone, as far aqs we are aware! Likewise we asked for the heated towel rail to be fixed but, again without success.
On a more positive note the food was very good particularly on Christmas Day when it was silver service and an excellent hot lunch, with wine, was served by willing, friendly staff. The rest of our meals were buffet service, very acceptable and hot. For those who did not venture out there were TV's and many board games - unfortunately no pool table (we had to walk twenty minutes to the nearest pub for that!). Also there was tea, coffee cakes and snacks available during the afternoons.
All in all a most enjoyable Christmas Break and we thank all the staff involved.

This hotel offers exquisite location - right opposite the rail station. It's been a very grand hotel but today offers easy, convenient and relatively cheap accommodation. I had room overlooking main entrance - big, clean with large bed (2 singles together).
The bathroom was impressive - bright and clean and very roomy.
The door really needed a security chain I felt.
Great breakfast- ample choice and fresh cooked. The lounge area and restaurant are good.
The men's toilets are amazing and I hope are preserved for all time.
Friendly staff. I enjoyed my stay and thank the hotel.

Again after reading some reviews you wonder what it will be like, but arriving on a coach trip for the new year our party of 6 had no complaints with the hotel. Our check in was swift and our cases were carried to our room for us. The rooms were clean, if dated, but plenty of hot water and extremely clean bathroom. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and could not do enough to help. Our table for meals was allocated to us, and there was a reasonable choice each evening and was well cooked and hot. Breakfast was plentiful and again hot. Ignore those who moan about having to do their own toast and having to stand in a queue, what do you expect waitress service for the price paid. We were there for the new year gala dinner and we could not fault this. 6 course menu, the staff did well to cater and serve so many people in the time and again some moaned about the tables not being cleared quick enough or where they were sitting. A thoroughly enjoyable night with a Robbie Williams tribute act and disco.
There was also entertainment on the other two nights which was fine. Plenty of space to sit, bar areas, ball room and games room. Although mentioned free wi fi in public areas we could access it on the second floor which was a bonus. Bed was comfortable.
