Stayed at the hotel for a night stay while visiting Alton Towers. Room was clean, big and perfect for our family of 5. Lovely view onto cricket grounds. Not many hotels cater for families where there are more than 2 children. Staff are helpful, would highly recommend and visit again.

Slightly downhearted on arrival as the Tollgate looked a little dated and car park surface breaking up a little. However a good welcome at reception with everything explained efficiently. Pleasantly surprised with our bedroom - very nice indeed, modern and comfortable, clean bathroom. Good night's sleep although my wife commented upon the plastic mattress protector undersheet, a bit uncomfortable - my bed didn't have it so no problem there. Requested extra milk portions and they were brought very quickly and with a smile. I couldn't control the heat in the shower and had a bath instead. Reported to Reception in the morning and apology given with the explanation that the problem was acknowledged and explained that a program of improvements was under way. Continental breakfast (in with the price) was very good - and plenty of it. Staff genuinely cheerful and helpful. Price was good. Didn't eat at night so can't comment. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Ask if the shower has been updated to one with thermostatic control.

As a family of 5 with children under 12 yrs it was a comfort to find a hotel able to accommodate us in 1 room. The room was large and the children's beds were very comfortable according to our boys. The decor is very much like an American motel for the early 90's. Very much in need of updating - fresh lick of paint, blinds instead of nets, quilts instead of blankets and covers. However the food was delicious and excellent value for money in the restaurant and the staff were a credit to the management. They were very nice and accommodating and great with our children's dietary demands. my only gripe was that the pillows were too flat and the mattress could of done with a foam topper. Besides that its a great place to stay and offers everything for a 3* accommodation. We will be back tho - its great value for a family of 5 and a short drive from Alton towers.

The photographs are very misleading as the hotel is a sports club with an accommodation block attached. The rooms are clean tidy but the beds have plastic under-sheets. Didn't eat in the hotel so unable to comment. OK but don' think I will return.

When you arrive this ramshackle collection of buildings might make you fear the worst. However the welcome, the genuine warmth of the staff makes this place. Food ain't haute cuisine but it is well cooked and hearty. Breakfast is filling and plentiful. The prices are amazing for what you get ! Thoroughly recommend this hotel
