Brilliant would use the Premier chain again.
We had a double room that could only be described as immaculate.
Easy to find from either the A1 or A 19.
We really could not fault the Premier Inn and all the staff that do the chain proud.

After many years of using Premier Inns up and down the country I have discovered after a recent exchange with their customers services team that I have been far to forgiving over the years and accepted that sometimes things go wrong and have never made any issues of it, this has led to me probably giving to higher ratings because of my forgiving nature leading to any minor issues that I do mention being looked on as unimportant because I still gave high ratings.

Normally when we book into this hotel we are given room 68, it has always been our preferred room because of its quietness, if that room wasn’t available when we booked the hotel would ring us and let us know, and would assure us that we would be placed somewhere quiet. On this occasion we received no call so we assumed that we would be in our normal room. However this was not the case!

When we first walked into the hotel we were greeted on the outside entrance by about 6 men drinking from cans of premium strength lager and smoking. At reception we booked in and was surprised to be given room 28. We made our way to the room, opened the room to be greeted by a constant din from high speed traffic. When opening the curtains we discovered the A19 (the busiest road in the area) less than 25 metres from the window. To make matters worse, this section of road is concrete, making it noisier than normal, there was no trees planted or any other measures taken to deaden the noise, and this led to a less than satisfactory night’s sleep!

Needing to be away early the next morning, we went for breakfast to be greeted by the breakfast room being filled up with about 2 dozen building contractor workers, who I believe had been staying at the hotel long term, these were part of a large number of contractors, who were using the hotel as a hot bed centre whilst working locally. This breakfast area resembled feeding time at the zoo.

After a pleasant day out, we returned to the hotel about 9:30pm, to find even more people outside. This time drinking lots of spirits and in very high spirits themselves. On entering the hotel the receptionist apologised for the scene outside and explained that they were more contractors who were staying at the hotel and they were celebrating someone’s Birthday. She gave the impression that she didn’t feel in control of the situation and passed comment that a male member of staff was about to start duty and hopefully who would bring the noise to an end. We returned to our room feeling lucky as we were not going to hear their celebrations because nothing would drown out the constant drone of the concrete road of the A19!

Next morning, we went for breakfast later so that the hot bedding contractors would be finished. This was the best part of the stay, during breakfast we discussed how little we had enjoyed our stay especially considering we were paying the best part of £100 a night for the room. We wondered if the cost was as high as we had stayed midweek when normally we stay weekends, so as an experiment we enquired how much it would cost to stay an extra night. We were told it would be £98 which would be the best part of £115 for bed and breakfast when you add on breakfast!

This led to us looking at what else was available in that price range, we discovered places such as Sedgewick Hall and Wynyard Hall would have cost us even less then the Premier Inn, and we look forward to trying these places out on our next visit North.

On leaving the hotel the receptionist asked if we enjoyed our stay, and I told her that we have been to this Premier Inn about 5 times a year for the past 5 years, as well as Premier Inns around the country as we travel around and we won’t be returning again. She asked why and I explained about the unacceptable scene that was outside every night, the closeness of the room to a busy road, the total lack of quality sleep and the chaotic scenes of breakfast time on our first morning. She apologised and I did tell her it wasn’t her fault. We have always found the staff approachable and helpful. But if the chain is going to use the word premier to describe themselves then they need to up their game as this hotel resembled a contractor’s doss house and not something you would pay £100 a night for!

An outstanding Premier Inn! Such a warm welcome, spacious spotlessly clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was very good and again the staff were excellent. This is probably the best Premier Inn I have stayed in and highly recommend it.

Best Premier inn ever. Fab helpful staff especially Blu. Clean rooms. Everything you want in a room for the price. Gave that extra mile. Had a wonderful stay. Wish all hotels were like it. Great stay if at Wedding at Wynyard hall hotel. So easy to reach by taxi. Only about 5 pound to venue. Totally recommend x

I've stayed about five or six times now for at least two nights or more. All the staff are excellent, never had any problems with my room, the staff or the food. The staff are extremely welcoming and presentable and of course the bedding is wonderful to sleep in. Although it is off an A road, I've never had any issues with noise.

Room Tip: I have stayed in three of the room numbers and they have all been great.
