“Nice to return after a 7 year gap”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

I used to stay here regularly 7-8 years ago, when working in the area. It was always a pleasant stay, with the advantages of leisure facilities and walkable into Yarm for an evening out.

Nice to know it's still the same in 2012. Staff just as friendly, and rooms have been refurbished - just a little small perhaps.

We recently spent a long weekend at the Parkmore. The room originally allocated to us was somewhat small with a small double bed but after a word at reception we were offered a larger room for a small nightly supplement and this was considerably better.

We ate in the restaurant on the first evening and had an excellent meal from the a la carte menu, wine was reasonably priced and the service was attentive. The dining room is smart but lacked atmosphere on this occasion as only five others were dining that evening. The breakfasts served in the same room were generous, frshly cooked and there was an excellent choice. Again the service was good.

We used the leisure pool and enjoyed the hydrotherapy pool, the jacuzzi and the sauna.

We enjoyed our stay and would stay again if in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the refurbished or superior rooms.

Stayed here for the weekend recently as we were attending a function. Where to start....? Our arrival did hold promise as we were told we had been allocated the best room in the house! A suite complete with full bathroom including jacuzzi bath. Great, we thought and headed up in anticipation. Well, if that was the best room, I'd hate to see the worst. It was a suite and it did have a jacuzzi but we didn't use it - that and the rest of the fittings in the bathroom were past their sell by date and there was a faint whiff around which wasn't very pleasant. Indeed, the smell permeated the whole room at times.

The bed was made up with sheets and blankets, very dated and in turn too hot and too cold. The decor was silver, black and tired, an obvious attempt at being 'boutique'. Tea and coffee making facilities were adequate but when we asked for two tea bags on our way to bed as we had run out (they only leave two), the reception person promised to leave two outside the door by morning and didn't.

Breakfast was truly one of the worst I have had. Day 1 we went for the full English as they took the order from the table, giving the impression it was cooked to order. It arrived within five minutes and apart from the egg, clearly wasn't. Bacon was the texture of Lino and the black pudding would have caused serious injury had it been deployed as a missile. Day 2 we opted for an omelette, they have to cook that to order, surely? Kind of - it arrived after about twenty minutes and was the texture of rubber. Obviously mixed the ingredients, chucked it under a hot plate and left it to 'cook'. Our toast had been on the table for all of that time while we waited and the couple on the next table had almost finished their breakfast before their toast arrived despite several requests! Our table was also a bit grubby, the previous guest's butter not cleared away and crumbs a plenty. Not much choice on the buffet breakfast either, burnt croissant, mostly tinned fruit, boxed cereal and a bowl of very unappetising yoghurt.

For all this we were charged about £125 per night. Compare that to recent stays in Valencia and Liverpool at £70 and £90 respectively for far superior hotels and I feel quite cheated. I don't mind paying more for good accommodation, food and service but this had none of those.

The only redeeming feature was the bar snack we had on the Saturday - a sandwich and some chips. Really good but doesn't make up for the rest...

we stayed here im march for the weekend.. it was in a really good location. either a short taxi ride into the main centre or a 10 min walk. our bedroom was quite small but offered everything we needed. and looked like it had been recently refurbished though on the outside may have been a little dated. the staff we found were very helpful and pleasant.. my husband had left his phone in the breakfast room and the staff were prompt in letting us know. we only ate breakfast here which was very nice and set us up nicely for the day. Yarm is a lovely town and we had a very enjoyable weekend there. never seen as many pubs on one street. and lots of lovely shops to browse round.

Room Tip: cant comment on the spa as we didnt use these facilities. but if it was as good as the rest of the h...

This is the hotel I use as my overnight accommodation when working in Stockton. The hotel is comfortable if a little dated. It reminds me of the seaside hotels of childhood holidays due to the creaky floorboards and numerous staircases, including a very grand, sweeping one which is an indication of the hotel's former life as a large house probably occupied by a rich merchant. Nevertheless my room included a flat screen LCD television and wifi has recently been added to the hotel facilities, albeit that the signal strength varies depending on where your room is located. The rooms are small, clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly, and the food on offer in the restaurant is very good.
The hotel is located within 10 mins walk of Yarm which provides a range of places to eat and some good pubs if you fancy a change of scene from the hotel.

Thank you for your recent comments on Trip Advisor regarding your recent stay at The Parkmore Hotel.

Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better experience for guests in the future.

Thank you for noticing some of the features within the hotel, the Parkmore Hotel was originally built in 1896 as the home of a wealthy ship building family.

The hotel is undergoing constant refurbishment since it was taken over 5 years ago, however the hotel is continually busy and trying to get rooms done when possible is at the top of our list and so far we have over 50% of the bedrooms refurbished.

I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience.

Yours sincerely,

Nathan George

We stayed in this hotel for nearly a week. The staff on the front desk weren't terribly welcoming when we checked in. The room was adequate and clean. It was on the second floor with no lift and we weren't offered any help to transport our bags. We asked a number of questions of different staff members during our stay about basic things like how to get around the area and so on, but didn't get any answers--instead we were told that we might be able to find the information online.
Our rate included breakfast. While we were impressed by the range of choice available to order, on more than one morning there were mix ups with our orders and the food that we got wasn't well prepared (eggs that weren't properly cooked, burnt toast etc.). The waitresses also struggled to keep up with guest orders, though there usually weren't that many people at any one time.
When we checked out we were charged the wrong (higher) rate for 3 nights of our stay. The staff member was happy to change the charge once we pointed out the error, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
