“Disapointing”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Due to my husbands work we have been staying in this hotel over the last 3 years. Unfortunately after about a 6 month break we came back bringing my sister and Mum. There have been changes NOT in the decor unfortunately, obviously a change of chef, the food was adequate, but on our last evening it was horrendous, there was a party from Stockton Rotary club of around 30 people and our meal then became one and a half hours late!!!! The Manageress in charge was very good - but obviously there was something very very wrong, the whole dining room clientele were very angry. We complained and did get our meal without cost, that was when my sister had to send her meal back to the kitchen because it was not what she had ordered!! All in all it was a sad ending to a 4 day break for our 84year old Mum,

Room Tip: Front facing otherwise you inhale everyones smoke from the courtyard outside

Thank you for your comments. We apologise that your last evening with us did not live up to the rest of your stay.

Very sadly, on the night in question, our Chef suffered a family bereavement, and was called away. His team did their best on a very busy night, but unfortunately there were some delays. We are sorry that you were affected. Obviously this is not a normal occurrence, and our food and service is excellent in normal circumstances.

We are still undergoing our bedroom refurbishment, having just completed a major refurb in the Leisure Club, including a lot of new equipment.

We hope that you will return again in the near future, and enjoy our normal, high standards.

This hotel has pleasant gardens at the front but inside the reception is uninviting and tired. The bedroom and bathroom were ok but one had to go through a warren of corridors to find it.

When we arrived at the restaurant for breakfast at about 9.10am it was full. There being no tables available we were asked to wait, several other people also arrived and likewise had to wait, although some others did manage to 'squeeze' on to existing tables with friends.

There was only one waitress on duty who, even though she was totally out of her depth, did her best to cope and to her very great credit remained, cool, calm and polite, for which she needs to be commended.

Finally, after my husband had been to reception to complain and ask that the manager be called to deal with the problem, other staff appeared and another part of the restaurant was opened, (where all the dirty china had been stacked and a large mirror beside our table was covered in greasy finger marks).

It took 18 minutes for us to be seated and a further 30 minutes for our order to be taken and arrive.

On the self-service table there was no fresh fruit other than apples and some grapes and the tinned fruit was so tasteless it was disgusting to eat. There was a small plate of seriously burnt pain au chocolat and croissants and a small plate of cheese and meat which looked decidedly old and dry. The 'clean' cereal bowls were dirty.

Finally, it was interesting to note, that when we left the restaurant; we were the last to leave; the original young waitress had yet again been left on her own to clear up all the tables.

Thank you for your comments. I am afraid that on the morning in question, 2 members of the breakfast staff called in sick, and at short notice replacements could not be found, thus the staff were over stretched for the number of guests in house. This is not a normal occurrence, and by no means our normal standard. We apologise for the inconvenience caused on this occasion.

The reception staff I found to be very brisk and not engaging. The room was adequate.....but tired and small. The evening dinner again.....adequate, though the staff were a bit more friendly. I went in to town my second night for a meal, though I got back to the bar at the Parkmore for Jamesons and they were out of stock and when they checked they had no other whisky available! Breakfast and the service very good.
I would stay again as the location suits my business needs but I would eat elswhere.

Room Tip: Try an upgrade to a larger room....there basic rooms are çosy.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you were disappointed with your room. We are trying to get through our refurbishment programme to finish the remainder of the rooms to a more modern standard, but unfortunately it is not something that can happen as quickly as we'd like. But I promise, we are working on it! We pride ourselves on our friendly, approachable staff. At present we do have a number of new staff, who are still gaining their confidence in their new positions, and as such they are a little on the quiet side..... we're sorry that you didn't get our normal welcome! The cellars are stocked up again , after a manically busy couple of functions..... so Jamesons is back on!

We attended a wedding here on Saturday. As a wedding venue it was great and we had a lovely day. However the breakfast on the Sunday morning left a lot to be desired. There were about 6 empty tables but they were all covered in pots. We were seated in the corner on a dirty table which the waiter came to clean eventually. He just brushed all of the crumbs onto the floor. We ordered a full English and some tea. We asked for some glasses so we could get some juice. We had to ask twice for glasses they did bring some out eventually but they only brought 4 out and there were others waiting for them too, there were 6 jugs of juice but 5 of them were empty. When they brought out tea they didn't bring any milk so we asked for some but they never came back so we had to borrow some off the table next to us. The actual dining room was really "dirty" feeling with food on the floor and the whole experience was a bad ending to what could have been a lovely stay.

Booked this hotel for one night just 1 hour before arriving and we were made to feel as welcome as if we had booked months before. The customer service was very good from the start and we were able to book a meal.
The food was excellently prepared for both the evening meal and breakfast and the restaurant manager and staff were attentive and keen to provide a good service. More importantly they asked whether we were satisfied on several occasions. Other guests appeared to be enjoying their experience too.
The room was clean (especially the bathroom which glistened) and comfortable with all you need (especially for a one night stay). The beds (twin) were comfortable and a good night's sleep was had.
We had one slight problem with the laqck of a set of towels but this was attneded to immediately (within 5 minutes) when it was reported.
We had no need of the use of such as the Spa or bar area but we were happy with the areas and services we used and would gladly go there again if in the area.

Room Tip: We had room 149 which was 'very' warm without any heating on and we ciuldn't fathom why.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Parkmore as my mother was getting married there. Whilst I have stayed in large chain hotels and have even experienced the best London has to offer, I was genuinely blown away by the staff and hotel. The Parkmore have recently renovated their rooms and are currently in the process of continuing these improvements in their gym. I think that staff make a business and Gary the restaurant manager made us feel very special, from starter to dessert he took the time to ask if we were happy with everything and even had a chat with us later in the bar. Reception were very friendly and we found the staff very helpful whenever we needed anything. Hotels do well when they remember that the basics of good service should be their main focus - the Parkmore does this with style.

Thanks again for a great day and we'll see you all again very soon!

Good sized car park

Check in fine.

First impression of hotel is that it's a little dated.

Room 155 is on the 1st floor, through a series of fire doors, connected by narrow corridors, once again quite dated.

Inside the room the theme continues,

Twin beds

Cream/white decor

Red carpet, with a couple of iron scorch marks in it.

Adequate wardrobe/drawer units.

Bathroom with bath/shower combo.

Bar area very small ,meals ok,portions average, chips few, served in a small silver coloured cup, plain chicken breast/steak with a mushroom and tomato to keep it company, fairly basic fare,I dined in Yarm the following 2 nights.

Breakfast was very good.

Gym ok,quite small, but enough equipment to work with, didn't use the pool(small),or any other facilities.

All staff encountered were very friendly.

Would use again when next in the area ,as there are are more positives than negatives, would try for a refurbished room, but the advice is to book early as all 55 rooms were full all week on my visit.

If you fancy a stroll,Yarm is about 20 minutes away and has a variety of bars and restaurants, and is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgraded room

Thank you very much for your feedback, all comments are greatly received.

We are in the process of upgrading our rooms, and 155 is one that is still to be done - but hopefully it won't be too long before we get to it!

Please make sure you ask for a new room when you stay with us again, so that you can appreciate the difference, and where we are trying to get to.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
