“Comfortable, old-world charm and definitely not a chain hotel”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Excellent situation right on the sea-front in this delightful out of the way seaside town which has lots to do for visitors but retains its old-world charm. The decoration is English Country house style with what is now called shabby-chic. Public sitting rooms are very comfortable with lots of reading materials and quiet corners. The bar is very relaxed looking out onto a terrance and the restaurant is excellent value for fresh, local and well cooked meals (breakfast is wonderful). Bedrooms are also very comfortable and those with a sea view are extra special. Overall a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are worth the extra

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The hotel is very much in the style of a country house but by the sea and it is nice that the public areas are appreciated

Thank you again for your comments and we hope to welcome you back soon

We've been staying regularly at The Wentworth (short breaks) for more3 than 20 years and never had reason to complain and rarely even had to mention anything that we were not happy with. The food is always exceptional; the rooms beautifully kept and always clean the staff friendly; the breakfast superb. Some people may quibble that there is no lift, but the little extra physical effort is worth it to stay in a hotel that so perfectly captures the glories of the past without being old-fashioned. The Wentworth is essentially tasteful; don't go if you want modern commercialism and glitz. This is for discerning people who know what they like. We'll never tire of the place.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms obviously have an advantage, but don't let that put you off, this hotel is a gem.

Thank you for your review and for continuing to visit the hotel. Your comments are very kind and I am glad we have always kept our standards up

We do have five ground floor rooms for those that find the stairs a struggle. Unfortunately the cost to put in a lift in a Georgian building are quite high

Thank you again for your comments and we hope to welcome you back very soon!

We have just returned from a lovely break here. The hotel is very well placed for both the pebble beach & the shops. We had no problem parking on any of our 3 days after we had been out sightseeing. There are beautiful gardens & outside seating areas too.
We had a sea facing room (2) which was on the 1st floor & had a lovely big sash window at the front & a smaller window at the side which made the bedroom very light. There was a blind & lovely heavy curtains. The bathroom was well appointed with a powerful shower over the bath, & lovely toiletries.
Floorboards were creaky, but that was to be expected in a property of this age.
Plenty of lounge areas with lots of interesting magazines to read. Beautiful antique furniture was mixed together with other well selected pieces making a fabulous look. Lovely colour schemes as well!
The food was very good, with plenty of choice (although some items were on the menu for the whole 3 days so presume they were popular?) and excellent quality. Fabulous breakfasts as well & the staff were very attentive without bothering you. Good idea for the sweet course to leave your menu turned down until you were ready to order...nice touch!
As a previous reviewer said the clientele is mainly 70+ but unless you are after discos & noisy entertainment don't let that put you off.
It is ideal for a relaxing break, in lovely surroundings, with good food & excellent staff.
There are some excellent small shops in Aldeburgh, which is a short stroll away either along the Crag Path so you can see the sea & fish huts, or on the parallel road away from the front.
We bought some dressed crab to take home from one of the huts & it was delicious.
We would certainly return if we visited Suffolk again.
Thank you.

Room Tip: Would have preferred superior room with separate lounge area but they were all gone.

Thank you for your review. I am delighted you enjoyed your first stay at the hotel and I hope it won't be your last.

Our car parking does give us a good advantage and avoids the hassle of worrying about where to park all the time. Room 2 is a very popular room as it has a dual aspect view with a lovely sea view and also a view down to Thorpeness.

With regards to the menu, although we do change our menu every day there are some items that do stay. These, as you rightly note, are popular items that remain to give people the chance to savour them

I do hope you come back to Suffolk again and use the Wentworth as your base

We have just had an extremely good family meal at the Wentworth. My mum and sister in law had stayed the night in a fabulous room with its own sea view and sitting room. The staff were attentive and the meal for sixteen was very good. We had a room sectioned off for us with a menu and title for the meal, which made my mum's day.

Thank you to everyone at the Wentworth for making an 80th birthday so special.

This is a wonderfully comfortable hotel with old fashioned values and very good food. Overlooking the sea, bang on the front what could be nicer? Aldeburgh is a lovely place for bracing walks and idle shopping.

My wife and I booked four nights on the inclusive B&B plus dinner deal. The hotel is right on the seafront of a charming small town and the decor is very traditional but with everything new and of high quality. We stayed in a Darfield House room. Our view was of the main hotel building but that did not detract from the comfort and charm of the room which had excellent bathroom and wardrobing facilities. DH backs onto a lovely walled garden and from there, access to the car park. Across the road the main hotel has rooms looking to the beach and the dining room is calm and comfortable. The food I found excellent and my vegetarian wife felt the menu was limited and repetitive for veggies. Looks better now after charming e-mail correspondence on the subject. Welcoming and relaxing with good food and service the Wentworth is great. There is a mostly older clientele but not a place to put off younger people seeking a tranquil break.

Room Tip: Rooms with apparently unappealing "street" view still very nice to stay in. Go Darfield or...
