Stayed here recently for a birthday trip. The location and sea views are outstanding, and the food is as good as a fine dine London restaurant. Massive thanks to Jo for her excellent service, and helpful advice about the area. Will be back!

Its true the refurbished rooms are well designed and very clean but at over 180.00 a night for a twin room it was overpriced especially as there were flies everywhere (room, reception, restaurant and lounge).

The restaurant is hideously overpriced and not great quality, I paid over £65 for two mains and two glasses of wine, my main was barely a starter!

We stayed at this hotel for one night 1st August 2010. We had two rooms, one for my mother in law and one for my husband, teenage daughter and myself. The whole hotel has a wonderful beachy theme. The rooms are beautifully fully decorated and very luxurious. My mother in law had a standard double room facing in land. It was not very big. Our other room was Room 101 a Superior Room with a sea view. It was enormous. There was a great big bay window with sofa and chairs to enjoy the amazing view. I have never gone to sleep to the sound of the waves before and I loved it. We ate in the hotel restaurant for both dinner and breakfast the following morning. On both occasions the food and service was excellent. I would recommend this hotel for a special occasion.

Booked a last minute Seaview Room (Reservations Staff were brilliant!) at a cost of £190 for BB. The room was small (I was warned though when booking) but immaculate and very nice. There was a trolley with dirty linen and bottles of water, etc outside of our door when we arrived and it was there 6 hours later (shame because it let the excellent room down!).

Ate in the Restaurant and the starter was lovely, really nice and initially the service was great. Ordered the main course which was tiny... and I mean tiny for £17.95! I was not served my side, and had to ask if it was coming and my wife ordered a drink, which was also forgotten about. There is a real problem with flies, really annoying!

The Staff were mainly friendly, especially the waitress and the Reception, but there is always the exception and if you stay there and use the bar/restaurant, you'll know who I mean!

It was lovely listening to the sea and as I said, the room was small but superb, pricey, but you get what you pay for!

Great breakfast, with great staff.

Stayed for two nights in a Deluxe Sea View to celebrate my wedding - I grew up locally and considered it the only place to stay in Aldeburgh!

The location is faultless, you really couldn't be closer to the beach. The decor and food are excellent. Our room was large with high ceilings and bay window overlooking the beach and sea, with two chairs and a sofa. Great for people watching. The sound of the waves is soporific and thick curtains totally obliterated early morning light.

The service didn't quite match other 4 star hotels I've stayed in, although our lovely breakfast waitress brought us two complimentary glasses of bubbly when she found out it was our wedding day.

I do think the prices are very high and would not be justified without the incredible setting and view. Also, a £5 surcharge to have breakfast in your room (on top of £285 a night!) seems unnecessarily penny-pinching. But if you don't mind spending the money, go for it - I couldn't have imagined a better start to our wedding day than being on an otherwise deserted beach at 6.45am!

We were lucky to stay in a room with a view which has to be one of the best in the country! From our private balcony we had views over the sea, beach and amazing countryside - including 2 castles! You can also see both the sunrise and the sunset from the balcony!

Overall, we had a perfect stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times - especially in the restaurant. We had the set menu on the Sunday night which was great value and of a very high quality - mostly locally sourced. However, the best aspect of the restaurant is that it is situated a few feet from the beach and, with it's elevated setting, gives the impression that it is actually on the beach itself.

From the moment we arrived we were bowled over. Friendly staff who all say hello and make you feel welcome. Simple gesture but so effective and made us feel special. Our room (No: 210) is probably the best for wow factor, relaxation & views. It has its own private terrace overlooking the sea and beach to the left, the Orford Ness Lighthouse ahead and to the right are the fabulous reed-beds and river towards Snape. Champagne on ice, sun, blue sky, we were in our element! The rooms is gorgeous with plenty of space for a sofa and two arm chairs, beautiful furnishings, trendy Welsh blankets and matching cushions in muted soft colours. The biggest bed ever with white bedlinen, comfortable and spacious. The bathroom has a fantastic clawfoot bath tub, plus a huge corner power shower. The bath products smelt gorgous, aromatherapy style and generous bottles. You feel truly pampered and relaxed. Dinner in the restaurant is another luxury, from the view of the pebble beach and sea to the fantastic menu, lots of local fish and an interesting menu and wine list. We had our coffee and dessert wine on the terrace as it was a balmy July evening. Breakfast another treat, cooked to order, and again interesting choices such as smoked kippers from the local smokery in Orford. We didn't want to leave and have vowed to return soon. Although it was only one night we felt like we had been away on a stylish holiday and been superbly looked after.
