“Disappointing this time”
Reviewed 18 May 2012

We have eaten at The Wentworth many times in the past couple of years and always been pleased but this time was disappointing. The food on the lunchtime menu was quite ordinary and the atmosphere in the small 'conservatory' not a patch on the main dining room (which was not in use).

“Traditional Country House Hotel On The Beach”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

The Wentworth hotel is very comfortable, it's wonderfully old fashioned without being stuffy, the service was outstanding; all the staff so friendly and helpful. I am British but have lived in the USA for a long time and I took my mother to the hotel for a short stay for her birthday, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. We had many plans to go visit other villages but we didn't want to leave the hotel (especially the cozy spot by the fire). Great food, especially breakfast which features smoked haddock and kippers. The dining room is elegant and inviting....Agatha Christie or Poirot would be at home. Most of the guests were 'of a certain age' but there were also a few younger couples who seemed to be enjoying their stay. We did not hear one person on a cell phone during our stay! When you enter the doors at the Wentworth you leave the frenetic outside world behind and become cocooned in a quieter, gentler place!

“Good quality food on the waterfront”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

I travelled to Aldeburgh for a family visit on Easter Sunday and had reserved a table for the evening. The Wentworth is a traditional hotel that has been in the same family for decades - but they obviously take pride in keeping up to date with good presentation, decor and menus. Not over fussy but good comfortable, traditional yet stylish dining rooms and lounge.

The menu had plenty of choices - seafood, of course, as it's within sight of the waterfront. But also duck, chicken, vegetarian options and steaks - my steak medallions were perfectly cooked and tender. All 5 of us agreed that the food was delicious, served hot and very good value all round. Highly recommended.

We visited Aldeburgh to see the town where Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears had lived and where Britten's 'Peter Grimes' is set and enjoyed it very much.

“Traditional quality”
Reviewed 29 March 2012 via mobile

Comfortable surroundings, wide-ranging menu, especially strong on fish, mature clientele, attentive though not over skilled service -very much a traditional seaside hotel

“Stylish hotel and restaurant right on the beach”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

We went here with some good friends for lunch last Saturday.
The hotel has a certain style that is not found in modern establishments and enjoys an enviable position right on the beach at Aldeburgh.
From our table we could see the beach and also the fish supplier where a lot of our lunch was apparently sourced from.
A lovely meal some of our courses including smoked ckicken and avocado, crayfish and prawn and a lovely crab salad.
All of our courses got a thumbs up and we also had a bottle from the very nice wine list.
Coffee to follow in the equally stylish lounge.
The hotel has apparently been in the same family for around 90 years and there are plentiful signs of a caring involved ownership.
Would definitely recommend for a classic English seaside lunch. Our friends have stayed in the rooms here and say that they are also of a high standard.
