Visited Aldeburgh on a sunny but cold Friday about 5pm it was time for some warm food it was a toss up between italian or traditional English. How can you go to Aldeburgh and miss out on local fish and chips. The Upper Deck is a small restaurant above a fish and chip shop in the main street, enter the door complete with a port hole up some stairs, this could be a problem if you are disabled as there is no lift. The seating area holds about 25-30 people and is clean and has a nice nautical theme, The fish is availiable in 3 size portions and a childrens size.
We had excellent waitres service very friendly, the fish covered in a lovely crispy batter and very nice hot chips.
So if you after quality fish and chips at a resonable price look no further.

Although this is a popular place it didn't live up to our expectations. We went for a family lunch at midday and had to queue for 15 minutes even at that relatively early hour. Each fish (we had skate, cod and haddock between us) was overly cooked, the batter was excessive and not in itself tasty and the haddock, in particular, was very dry. The chips and the service were OK and the price was reasonable, hence the two stars, but I certainly wouldn't rush back.

You would expect most chip shops to accept custom on a very wet Wednesday afternoon in November, especially when there were very few people eating there, but this chip shop does not allow 0-3 year olds. No where is this stated on their website, very poor for a so called award winning chip shop. Waitress apologised but was clearly embarrassed to the point of being ashamed of having to turn us away. For the owners of this chippy it's time to evolve & arrive in the 21st century. Boycott the Upper Deck:(

I had to really look for this place on TA, because the photo at the top of this page is totally wrong. The restaurant is upstairs, above a fish and chip shop in Aldeburgh High Street, not on the deck of a cruise liner!

We went to Aldeburgh, and fancied fish and chips, so went to the Upper Deck. It was EXCELLENT! Fresh cooked fish, lovely crispy batter and brilliant chips, all accompanied by excellent service in spotlessly clean surroundings. What more could you ask from a fish & chip restaurant?

Turned up 09-11-13 to be told full! and a que waiting ( 1 set of people) turned her back and dismissed us. Lucky people to have this attitude and still get business. Food has been good in the past but service not good enough!
