Friends (who visit the area more frequently than me) had cautioned me not to expect too much, but we were all pleasantly surprised. Decent quality at a reasonable price, and a nice friendly atmosphere. Particular mention to my sole which was just superb.

Having been critical of Regatta on a previous review it's only fair that to say that 5 of us had a great meal on Saturday.

The 4 starters were 2 Tempura prawns, 1 gravadlax and 1 fish soup. The 1st 3 seemed to disappear well enough and my fish soup with rouille and croutons was excellent, as good as I've had anywhere. Maybe a little more heat in the rouille but that's a real nitpick.

Mains were roasted saddle of hare with roasted beetroot, roasted halibut in a cream and basil sauce, sirloin steak for our young birthday granddaughter and 2 of the Gressingham duck breast with a carrot and cumin puree and a ginger and orange sauce. We were really pleased with all these dishes and they were all enthusiastically demolished. 3 desserts were shared around, a chocolate cake with mascarpone, the house special creme brulee and profiteroles with a chocolate and caramel sauce (naughty !!). Again, all 3 were excellent.

The restaurant was really busy but the service was good, well timed and efficient.Requests were dealt with properly and we were well looked after.

All of my downsides from before were gone and we all really enjoyed our evening. It was good to be back and I'm sure we shall be back again soon.

Aldeburgh High Street was deserted on this cold Saturday night in November. We soon discovered why. They were all crammed into the Regatta Restaurant!

Even though it was busy, the service was fast and efficient, with no long wait for food. Lots of interesting specials on offer, plenty of choice. Couldn't fault anything and it was good value too.

This is a very popular restaurant (you need to book) at the heart of the bustling seaside town of Aldeburgh. It works for families or couples and has a relaxing atmosphere with a great ambience. The food is lovely - I had scallops with crispy bacon on pea puree and then chicken piri piri. Many of their dishes you can opt for starter or main size and there is always the specials board - so lots to choose from. Coffee comes with superb homemade fudge and should be missed at your peril. Its always a mecca for us when we are in the town - and should not be missed if you are staying there.

A warm and friendly welcome placed us in a corner seat allowing a great view of all activities in this excellent restaurant. We chose from the blackboard enjoying fish soup with rouille and hot smoked salmon with onion chutney to begin followed by scrumptious belly pork on a dense black pudding mash and fresh, fresh halibut with a shellfish and basil cream sauce. The side vegetables are included in the price which is very reasonable at £14.50 and £16.00 ( mains) for the exceptional quality of the food. It tastes fantastic too. Great lunch, great service.
