There were 20 of us celebrating Christmas on Sunday 22nd December late afternoon, the whole family from 6months to 66yrs. We were made to feel so welcome, they were very well organised, we were all together in our own area, the atmosphere was homely and welcoming. The food came out piping hot and we were all served at the same time which was quite impressive. The food was of an excellent quality and was very tasty and for the price was really good although a few more vegetables would have gone down well ( we love our veg) . It was a surprise when Father Christmas arrived, an added extra which really made the occasion. All in all a lovely time was had by all and we look forward to next year when we can all meet up again at the Fox Inn.

Stayed at the Fox for one night mid week en route to a business meeting. Thought the room and bathroom were both excellent and very good value. It is true the rooms look out on the car park and the cars do park right up against the doors to the bedrooms--didn't bother me at all but can see it might be an irritant.
Breakfast next morning was good with prompt and friendly service. Couldn't fault my stay and would use The Fox again if in the area

We were very pleased by the size of the room and bathroom. The rooms are well decorated and have large beds with very pleasant furniture and ample hanging space. Our bathroom was spacious, warm and well equipped. These are extremely good rooms for a pub. The only problem is privacy. The pub car parking is right outside the room (good for some people I accept) but it means the rooms have a somewhat bleak view of cars and a wall. There is also a right of way through the pub car park from the one of the local car parks to the centre of town hence people are walking past a lot of the time. This means that although the rooms have partial shutters roughly half-way up the window, when you close them for privacy, you do feel shut in and the room becomes dark. There was a tiny roof light which needed to have been a lot bigger. However, for the price, the interior was good.

Breakfast on our first day had its problems and really showed a lack of training. Fruit was a bowl of apples and there was no orange juice because it had not been delivered. The only other choice was apple juice. We went to breakfast at 9.30 am and obviously this problem was known about much earlier. We asked if no-one had thought about getting in some orange juice from the local supermarket, but we were told they had to wait for the delivery. They were not allowed to use the orange juice from the bar either. In the end they did give us bottles of orange juice which were opened and plonked on our table. I think orange juice is a pretty basic breakfast component. The cooked breakfast was good but it took an age to come. At this stage we were the only people in the breakfast room. All this felt a bit amateurish and it was a shame the toast came with the cooked breakfast and not before with the tea/coffee. The following day more fruit had arrived and the orange juice too. We did not have an evening meal here but it was very busy with Christmas bookings. Personally I would not stay here again, but the price is reasonable. There is a room upstairs above the others so this would have been lighter and more private.

Room Tip: Choose the one upstairs. (No 3) not sure.

The food is fairly good, when you get it. We went on a Spice Night and ordered curry. Considering it was spice night and the place was half-empty it should not have taken 40 minutes to heat up. The server did not know which curry was which so he sniffed it! My rice was stone cold so my whole meal returned to the kitchen for another 10 Minutes. Then a very rude lady came to discuss what had happened with the words 'do you have an issue'? She offered us a refund and then retracted this as we had paid in advance and with cash. After complaining to Greene King who got the manager to give us a free Sunday lunch (but no apology) we went along with high hopes of better service. Mrs Haririson had asked us to identify ourselves when we arrived so that she could personally host our meal. We did so and were told she was unavailable. Half way through our meal we saw her at the bar but she ignored us. The next day my husband rang her to ask why she did not come over. She said she was too busy, and she STILL did not apologise. Very poor management, poorly trained staff (including the server who barked 'size' after each person ordered a drink on the next table) and bad attitude. This is such a shame as potentially this could be a very good place to eat. Not looking forward to having a meal there on Saturday night with a large party.

I had heard such good things since this pub had been taken over but was very disappointed when I went as part of a group for our Christmas meal! I was the last to arrive but still before booked time...had to wait about ten minutes before anyone came to the table when I ordered a drink then had to remind someone ten minutes later that I still had not got my drink! I was told that there was a large party in and they were busy! Surely if you are going to advertise Christmas menus, ask people to book and preorder food then there should be enough staff on hand to make every table feel important and receive the best service! The Christmas pudding had been microwaved for too long and was very hard and un eatable, the waitress was told about this and asked to pass it on but we had no feed back and had to ask for it to be removed from the bill. All in all not a memorable experience...except perhaps for the wrong reasons!

Often go for Saturday morning breakfast and it is consistanty good. The food is prepared from fresh local produce, none of your supermarket rubbish. The service friendly and fast and the price is very reasonable. Can't comment on other dishes but if it's anything like breakfast then you won't be disappointed.
The ambiance is just write for this type of venue and it's very central location to the market square makes for a very good rest and recuperation spot.
