“so lovely!”
Reviewed 19 January 2014

The most lovely place to stay in Bury, a welcoming and kind host which we continue to keep in touch with. She was so generous with her time, expertise and genuine kindheartedness. We didn't want to leave! The house is stunning, rooms are well looked after, private and spacious, and breakfast is great. Cannot recommend it enough!

Our stay at the Orchard St BNB was delightful and effortless. We were welcomed immediately by Mariella, who is an efficient and engaging host. All amenities were provided and of a high standard. Mariella is an exceptional cook, her full English breakfast was particularly scrumptious. If I have the need to stay in this location again, I would not hesitate booking this excellent accommodation.

Reviewed 4 December 2013

Had booked 2 rooms here in April 2013 for the Christmas markets last weekend. Had a fair amount of queries before booking which were answered quickly by Mariella each time by email. On arrival we were assisted in finding a parking space in a side road very close by. It's free parking with a parking permit supplied by Mariella.
My in-laws were staying in a room in the main house, whilst we were shown to a secret hideout on the premises with an upstairs sitting area. There was a problem with the hot water in our en-suite when we arrived which Mariella had called an electrician out twice already before we arrived. By the time we returned to our room on the 1st evening around 9.30pm (having arrived in BSE about 3.30pm) the electrician had been back and this time all got fixed.
There was even a fridge in our room which was a nice surprise, but you are probably best to switch it off at night as it rumbles into action every 2 hours or so for about 15 mins.
The bed was very comfy and the TV in a good position to watch TV in bed with a remote that has a 'sleep' button on it. The power shower was fab with easy to control temperature.
Breakfast was served in the dining room which was a cosy room with a large table seating a minimum of 6 people. On our 1st 2 mornings we had the table to ourselves as other guests had had breakfast earlier than our requested 8.45am. On the 3rd morning we met Vanessa who is a regular visitor and we were informed was the 1st person to leave a review for the establishment. It turned out that Vanessa only lives 2 miles from us.
Breakfast started with being asked whether we wanted tea/ coffee white/ brown bread and whether we wanted full English or something different. Whilst that was all being prepared there were cereals available and OJ to begin with. There was a tub of biscuits too and I did eat one on the 1st morning. On the 2nd and 3rd mornings we did get an extra treat which I won't say what it was incase it was only for Mariella and Paul's favourite guests!
As others have commented we also found Mariella and Paul to be perfect hosts and very interesting to chat to. When we return to BSE (unfortunately it might not be for another 5 years or so) I would definetly be trying 6 Orchard Street availability first.
I do feel the need to mention it is not suitable for wheelchair users though, which isn't a criticism but is an observation.
In case Mariella was wondering who the extra guests were in our room. It was Blue (bear) and Nellie (Elephant).

Mariella and Paul were so helpful and the accommodation clean. Beds very comfortable and breakfast delightful. We loved the cheery conversation around the table with hostess and other guests and were very grateful to have help getting a couple of personal problems solved with generosity beyond the norm.

Room Tip: Our room was at the front and we were not disturbed by noise at all.

I had a fantastic stay with Mariella and her family. It was clean comfy and nothing was too much trouble.Anything you wanted they did their very best to accommodate you.I loved every minute of my stay and would go nowhere else next time I visit. It took me about one and a half minutes to walk into the town and the bus station is about a minute away the train station is about a 5 minute walk and the Library is about a minute away with free Internet connections for visitors.
I stayed with Mariella for a month and I am so glad I chose this particular B & B this is the place to pick if you are looking for great accommodation in Bury.

Mariella was a lovely host, nothing was too much trouble. Everything was great-comfy bed,tea & coffee facillities, shower, breakfast etc.
The only thing we didn't like was that it was a little dusty. But everything else made up for that,so it's not a huge complaint.

We needed overnight accommodation at the last minute, and they responded very rapidly and confirmed room. Easy to find from the Railway Station (10 minutes); Mrs Mariella had made arrangements to let us in as she was out. After keeping luggage in room wandered around town (easy, as it was middle of town) and returned for the night. Tea/ Coffee facilities in the room, and cooked breakfast was adequate.

Room Tip: Stayed in the back room, first floor. Others looked similar and quiet.
