“great room , ideal location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2010

We came to Bury St Edmunds for a weekend away with friends. We were very pleased with the guest house. the staff were very friendly and helped us locate different places in town. we had massive rooms on the top floor which were quiet, very clean and wonderfully warm.

The guest house was well situated for walking into town so it was parked up for the weekend.
We are hoping to make a return visit in early 2011

We stayed here with our 3 kids for a local swim meet. We had 2 adjoining rooms on the lower floor. Despite being on the bottom floor, the rooms were bright, airy, and cheerful. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was good. My only concern was the lack of parking in the front (busy town street) although there is parking around the corner. However, it's not well-lit and not fun crossing the busy street. Overall, a very nice stay and we'd definitely come back.

The Good Stuff:
We stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding reception and booked largely on price as weddings are so expensive for families to attend, this was the cheapest option. Owners very accommodating of our request to put our 2 small children (Aged 2 & 5) in our bedroom on campbeds - no other hotel or B&B that I called would consider this! Even with the campbeds we had ample room (Room 8). Bedrooms and all public areas were spotlessly clean, it looked like it had all been given a fresh coat of paint. Bright neutral rooms, modern, functional decor. (I've not ticker the 'no frills' as I think it's so much nicer than that, but it's not a cosy, period, feature property) All rooms had ensuite bathroom, ours had a free standing power shower (I have no idea if any of the rooms have baths, rather than showers?) Free Wi-fi in all bedrooms, Tea/coffee making facilities, ample hangers in the wardroobe, chest of drawers, iron and ironing board in the room.
Public dining area with a fridge and microwave and use of crockery and cutlery, which was handy for us as we were able to give the children a bit of tea. We left the dishes and they were taken away and washed for us. Lovely terrace and immaculate garden (Raining when we stayed so didn't use this) Breakfast each morning was great, cereals and juice and cooked to order english breakfast, made with local sourced produce. My son has food allegies so they were happy to warm up the food I'd bought and offered fruit alternatives as he cannot eat wheat. The B&B was fully booked the 2 nights we stayed there so the breakfast room was busy and a little cramped but well managed by the staff, we didn't have to wait very long for the food.
We had keys to the main door and our rooms so we could come and go as we wanted. There is a Domino's Pizza directly opposite the B&B and a Tesco Superstore a short walk away. It is 4 minutes walk from the train station and maybe 7 minutes to the town centre. The B&B had also been booked by a couple of other wedding guests, a couple, single guest and another family of 3, who all enjoyed it.
The bad stuff:
None of this is really bad, and didn't hamper our stay, it just needs a mention.
There is a very small carpark, advertised as 6 spaces more like 4, however as we were there over a weekend we could park on the street for free 6pm - 8am and moved the car to the car park from 8.00 when someone else checked out. The B&B was fully booked the 2 nights we stayed there so the car park was always busy. The rooms are toasty warm, so we opened the windows to cool them which was fine. The hotel is on a main road so there is some traffic noise, (With the windows open) which didn't bother us, and certainly didn't hamper our stay / sleep, but I thought I should mention it.
We booked based on the reasonable price and the accommodating staff, but would definately stay here again.
