“Very Comfortable Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2012

I couldn't get into the usual hotel (Salt Harbour Hotel) I stay in in Ipswich so stayed at the sister hotel about 30mins away. Very attentive staff who helped out by printing some documents I needed.
Room 19 was very nicely/newly decorated but (presumably as on ground floor) the windows are sealed and air con didn't seem right.
Overall, with a great breakfast, I would recommend.

We stayed at this hotel the night after our daughters wedding on the 19/08.

This hotel is so pretty from the outside and the inside doesn't disapoint either.

The weather was scorching hot so we asked if our room had AC, the girl on the desk said it didn't but we could upgrade to a superior room for £40.00 which we did.
The room was absolutely brilliant and had the most amazing bathroom & freestanding copper bath !!!!
We would definetly stay again, the satf were all so lovely and friendly.

We mentioned we were touring different hotels in the area and the manager recommended their sister hotel in Ipswich( Salthouse), which sounded so lovely we actually stayed there also. (seperate reveiw to follow)
Bury St Edmunds is certailnly a must to visit & the hotel is right in the centre of all the attractions, with walks galore !!!!!!
Thanks to all at the Angel for a memorable stay.

Travelled to Bury St Edmund s with a group of more senior cricket players and stayed at the Angel hotel for two nights over the bank holiday weekend
The hotel is beautifully located in the heart of this interesting market town. The cathedral is a 150 yard flat walk from the hotel and there a superbly maintained park gardens 100yards away. The town itself is all easily assessable on foot.
The hotel staff will willingly park guests cars and will return them to the front of the hotel when given 30 minutes notice .
The hotel itself is an impressive building from the front with an abundance of hanging baskets and window boxes.
The lobby and check in staff were polite and helpful, and the lobby itself is modern and clean
The room we were located had twin beds, which were clean and comfortable , but may of been a little to soft for some !
We were told our room was due for a refurbishment , and upon close inspection it did have some signs of wear.
The en suite bathroom had a shower unit, wall mounted above the bath and a soft curtain screen, although it was in working order it was very dated and ''tired'.
Others of our party were very complimentary of there accommodation, which had been refurbished .
The hotel was very busy , and arriving early for breakfast was a must. We had no difficulty and were immediately seated in the high ceilinged modern breakfast room.
There was a good choice of all the 'normal' breakfast fare.
The food was nicely presented and of a good quality.
The staff , who were mainly of eastern European origin , were, polite efficient and always smiling.
This hotel was ideally positioned, and good value for money , we would have no hesitation in returning .

Room Tip: In our front facing room was no issue of any noise disturbance , and there was a view of the cathe...

We didn't stay at this hotel, but just popped in for a couple of cocktails. Very nice drinks served by the barman. Couldn't find a menu so we didn't stay to eat.
The furniture is not for the vegetarians.

Nicely decorated hotel with very distinctive features inside.
Staff were very helpful even though there was a wedding going on.
The outside was very colourful with Ivy and flowers everywhere.
Great place to sit outside and have a drink watching the world go by.

This was a wedding anniversary stay of 3 nights midweek. As when we stayed previously we found the staff friendly, welcoming and efficient. The room was 218 (William Tassell Suite) and was delightful (see room tips for more information). We had our border collie with us and he was made very welcome by everyone.

We had originally booked a DBB deal (The Grape Escape) in one of the Courtyard rooms, but decided to upgrade to a Junior Suite and were surprised not to be offered a similar deal to encourage us to dine in rather than go out to eat in the town. However, after a bit of a false start, we negotiated an offer which meant that we received a free bottle of Italian wine, (advertised as £35 on the wine list) with each meal. The dinners were superb and the ambiance of the Cathedral Gardens facing restaurant was informal and lively (despite the fact that we stayed midweek). Waiter service breakfast was also exceptional.

All in all a great stay and we would definitely visit again. We agree that some areas of the hotel (mainly corridors) are looking a little careworn, and could do with some work, but really nothing to complain about. We have also stayed in the sister hotel Salthouse Harbour in Ipswich and would thoroughly recommend it - especially the Penthouse Suites.

Room Tip: We stayed, with our dog, in room 218 (William Tassell Suite) which is apparently the best room in t...

With a friendly welcome from the very helpful staff, easy check in, and very nice comfortable rooms I don't hesitate to recommend this hotel. We booked through booking.com which was easy and gave us a discount. The hotel is lovely with lots of quirky ornaments and design features. The bed was very comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep. It is bang in central Bury opposite the Abbey and very near the Cathedral (well worth a visit too). The breakfast is very good too, from a menu not a buffet so freshly cooked, with a wide range of leaf teas or coffee. Not the cheap option but well worth the money.
