“Gorgeous ambience and friendly staff.”

We stayed on a busy Friday night and arrived after a long day to a beautifully designed room. The individual touches and high quality finish are superb. The bed was super comfortable, thank you! The modernisation of this grand town centre has been sensitively carried out and will suit all ages of traveller. We were also shown to the Vaults, the new over 25's underground bar which had a lovely relaxing and unwinding vibe away from the busy restaurant and lounge. The porters are to be commended on a fantastic job as they have to move cars around a tight car park and negotiate the front town parking rules. Our car was always available when we wanted and they took great care of the bikes we were travelling with. Nothing is too much trouble at The Angel. The Breakfast menu was excellent with a super choice from everything you could possibly want. The smoked salmon with poached eggs on a toasted bagel was a delicious change and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the local sausage and bacon dish. Keep up the good work!

Stayed for two nights for a friends wedding and only chose the hotel as other guests were staying there too.
Well situated in the centre of town and very pretty on the outside.
Arrived.. NIGHTMARE parking the car (but the doorman was helpful and tried his best). We had to hand over the keys and it was explained that the cars needed to be moved around as the car park in front was pay and display and so a juggling act was necessary.
Not terribly clever when you a) have no idea where your car is and b) one is never too sure about keys, and what the chances are of the vehicle being damaged with the amount of re-parking that went on.
Went inside - lovely open fires - but with the heating cranked up to what felt like a million degrees it was viciously hot and we broke into perspiration within minutes..
Check in took forever. We were under our full names, but someone had not done their homework or even taken the time to check - and apparently my husband 'Earl' was married to a 'Count'. Earl & Count Bathurst. Its not really important, & it couldn't matter less - but it does illustrate a basic lack of care and attention.
We also BOOKED a 'romantic suite' at £340 per night, which we thought was outrageously expensive, but with all the luggage (we were going on to Scotland for 4 days afterwards) and 2 night stay, we needed the extra space...
However - when we were taken to our room, call me old fashioned, but a suite it most definitely was not...
There was no separate sitting room, not even a nod in the direction of an extra room...
There WERE two chairs plonked in front of the window with a table in-between, but if that constitutes a suite, then I'm a monkey's uncle - or aunt...
The room itself was not even spacious - no dressing table - nothing. In fact it was cramped and small - not a suite at all, but a small to average sized hotel room. It was also tired and grubby.
The bed turn down the first night was efficient, but unimaginative.
The first morning we were on a tight time schedule, so as suggested, we rang down to reception to give them ten minutes notice to get the car to the front. We had to wait around an extra 15 minutes on top - i.e. it took over 25 minutes for the car to appear and it made us late.
On returning to change for the wedding, I ordered a lunch which I have to say was excellent. Warm chicken Ceaser Salad. Very good indeed and arrived in a reasonably timely fashion.
We then left for the wedding.
On our return, which was extremely late and we were very tired, we went back to the room to find it in exactly the same state we had left it. The bathroom had not been spruced up/replenished - my lunch tray was exactly where I had left it. Dirty glasses on the side - unwashed cups - and no bed turn down.
Clearly, we had been completely overlooked by housekeeping.
We rang reception and they were apologetic, but it was too late to do anything.
The second morning my husband went to have breakfast - and within 15 minutes housekeeping were banging on the door to gain entrance to turn the room around. They were given pretty smart marching orders...
Breakfast was uneventful, but ordinary. The service was extremely slow.
We did complain about the lack of housekeeping - and to be fair they did knock £100 off the bill, but as the room was so severely overpriced anyway, it barely made a dint and it should never have happened.
All in all a complete disaster.
Not to be recommended and we certainly will never return.

Room Tip: If you book a 'suite' you may want a little clarity as to what that really means. Ours was a...

Stayed here for four nights with work recently and it was up to its usual high standards. I have stayed here previously on a few occasions and it has never let me down. The staff are excellent, the rooms are excellent and the food is excellent. It is positioned in a great place in the town for ease of access to all the shops and restaurants etc.

Room Tip: Parking can be tight at times but just park your vehicle in the middle of the Hotel and report to re...

Stayed one night on business, arrived late after a 5 hour journey and relived when I arrived exhausted that everything was top class. Now in my 2nd hotel after another 12 hour day and wish I was back at the Angel !

Just a couple of minor niggles (ill fitting windows + bath panel coming off) Excellent location, all Bury has to offer within a few minutes walk.

I visited this hotel twice on business in October. Both stays were perfect. The staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. The rooms are immaculate and really different. On my second stay, I was lucky enough to get room 20 which is absolutely stunning. The fixtures are amazing and it was the nicest room I have ever stayed in. The bathroom was amazing and I wanted to pick it up and take it home! There are patio doors onto a little terrace with a small table and 2 chairs. Although it was October, it was quite mild so it was nice to enjoy the late afternoon sun relaxing out there.
The restaurant is really exceptional, all my evening meals were superb. I had the best steak and chips I have ever eaten. Handmade chips...divine! Also, a really varied menu which changes regularly and has different specials each day. The staff were lovely and really attentive. The Suffolk grill breakfast is not to be missed!
Overall,a really lovely place to stay for business or pleasure in a perfect location,

Room Tip: Room 20. More like a suite. I stayed in 208 on my first stay which was nice as well.Hotel is very ol...

The Angel is located in the heart of Bury St Edmunds but with free parking.

Our room was spotless and comfortable.

We had a good meal in the dining room which represented value for money.

The staff were great.
