We had our wedding here, and couldn't be happier with the both the staff and the venue. It is a wonderful building, full of character and history, and a world away from the homogenous, bland idea of a modern hotel. You really feel you are staying in a special place. The grounds are really beautiful, too, and the kids were endlessly fascinated with the animals. As for the staff, they really made our day; relaxed, friendly and thoroughly professional.
I should also mention that the food was absolutely top-notch. Even our most fussy-eaters were bowled over by the BBQ, which was cooked to perfection.
I would recommend this hotel to any couple looking for a classy, memorable wedding.

Clean bedroom, very tastefully furnished dining room with a comfortable lounge area. The barand The Hotel has a real homely feel to it. The staff are friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. Maeve in the breakfast room is a real joy and is a sight to behold when the breakfast room is busy. The food is excellent and we will stay again if and when we are in the area.

I stayed her for one night in July 2011, it was for a friends wedding with my partner. The way the staff took care of the wedding could not be faulted, it was an amazing day and the hotel is situated in gorgeous grounds.

I found however that the room needed some TLC. We stayed in one of the Mews Rooms charged at the full £125 per night rate. On entrance through lovely white double doors (though straight in from outside), the room is extremely small. On the floor by the side of the bed near the small ledge with the kettle on it, there was a large stain on the carpet and on the same side, the doilles (fabric) on the bed side table with the bedside lamp on, also had a huge yellowy stain.

The head board was made of three pieces of wood with patterns on though the middle one was completely off centre and there were screws sticking out of the wall from where it should have been.

Under the dressing table at the end of the bed, there was a huge pile of completely out of date magazines and a large A3 print out of what was a menu. I felt that it shouldn't have been a dumping ground and added clutter to an already small room.

The food during the wedding was amazing and can not be faulted and the service from the staff working the wedding was also fantastic.

When returning to the room to sleep, the bed was extremely comfortable, however I woke up very early as the 2 large curtains that cover the large doors did not meet properly in the middle and so let all the light in, and also proved an issue for privacy when dressing etc as the rooms are outside with others passing, maybe one large curtain would be better so that there is no gap.

The bathroom compared to the room was a nice size and very clean.

Breakfast in the morning was in the main hotel, on arrival we sat near the fireplace and saw that alot of the old bottle in the fireplace for decoration were covered in dust and spiders webs. Breakfast seemed very formal, though was tasty enough. Didn't feel it was anything to rave about. The fresh tea leaf tea, whilst most would find that a lovely touch, I couldn't wait to get back to the room and make a PG tips. I think it should be offered though left to the customer to decide wether they want loose leaf tea or not.

I would probably stay there again if they reduced their room rates, at £125 for bed and breakfast, I felt it far to much for a very small room.

Lovely venue for a wedding.

Room Tip: Maybe try and book a room in the main hotel building.

During June I stayed in four hotels in the area. This was my second favourite. It is a good hotel in an old building. Good standard of cleanliness. The staff were all very good I only ate breakfasts which were served at the table. No buffet. The hotel has a good reputation for food. God bear in the bar. A small outdoor pool. A croquet lawn. A few farm animals. nice grounds and outdoor seating areas. The only drawback with all the nice outdoors is the noise from the nearby A14. May be a little expensive for a three star. Seems to be a popular wedding venue.

Find out if there is a function taking place before you book. Our stay was a disaster as 60 Irishmen having a barbecue on the lawn decided to invade the hotel at 11pm and have a party until 1am! When they finally left, we heard some of the staff having a drink until 3am! As we were in a room directly above the bar, we had a miserable time. We paid £210 for the night and so you would have thought a peaceful night was guaranteed - but no.

The hotel is a period property and so you expect a character-ful property but, in my view, it is a bit tired with wonky plumbing.

Shame because the restaurant was memorable.

We will not stay again!

I have stayed a this hotel on a number of occasions in the past also dined here with friends and family and I had my Wedding reception here a few years ago, the hotel staff and house owners are very polite and welcoming and always go the extra mile to make you feel special, I think the Ravenwood Hall takes some beating in this area and i would reccomend this to evryone, the ground are amazing and the hall its self has a great atmsphere,

I cant see how people can moan about this hotel - must be a favourite pass time for them!

Thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday night break for 2 people at this lovely 16th Century house. Dinner, bed and breakfast for only £103 for the two of us ! Amazing value!
The food is top class, the setting beautiful, and the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast waitress, in particular, was superb!
