We bought a deal off of Travelzoo to stay at Ravenwood for my husbands 40th birthday. We have two boys under two and so we really needed time to wind down and to spend some quality time together, and Ravenwood provided just that. We arrived to afternoon tea with champagne, a treat I will never forget. Tea was served in gorgeous silverware and the scones were huge and extremely tasty. We took a trip into Lavenham for a walk around the shops. The village had a lovely feel to it, and a comforting smell of log fires. The service at Ravenwood was fantastic, especially over our six course taster dinner. The bed was cosy and as the hotel is situated in the countryside, the room was extremely peaceful.

I would definitely recommend Ravenwood in the winter, for that open fire cosy feeling. I'd like to return in the summer to try out their open swimming pool.

I had a golden wedding anniversary party here. The day was very much enjoyed but this was very much due to some very good friends rather than the hotel. The organisation and the preparation of the room was terrible with little attention given to making it attractive. We had to move tables, chairs ourselves within a short timeframe to improve it. The food was badly presented and very poor quality. The staff and owner were incredibly unhelpful. As a family we had been visiting the hotel for over 10 years with no complaint but on the one day it really mattered they very much let us down.

We also stayed in Mews 3 on 23rd Feb and completely agree with the comments left on 15th Feb headed up 'Brilliant But' and can add to thier list we found the room cold and noisy due to the passing cars of people and staff leaving the hotel in the night, right past our our door. The breakfast the following morning was cold. We we told the previous night at 8.30pm (at the bar) that we could not order a snack/sandwich as the kitchen was too busy? we sat down in the lounge area and eventually at 9.15pm the hotel manager offered us a sandwich, which eventually arrived at 9.50pm. Odd really as the room service menu which is huge by the way, said we could order upto 9.30pm perhaps I should have called from Mews 3 and ordered the food.
Emailed the hotel when we got home with my complaint and received no response, emailed again and no explaination received at about my comments, but a 50% discount offered on another stay, so an offer was made but to be honest not sure I want to give them any more of my hard earned money.

Room Tip: I would recommend you book a room in the main building and not a Mews room as these are tired and in...

We stayed here for one night in the Rookery room in February. We were so impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff, throughout the entire stay. The room was lovely: very clean, all basic amenities were provided (of a good quality) and there is good choice of TV and free Internet. Although the room was very pink and floral, it was all in keeping with the house.
We enjoyed a delicious meal, very high quality and were disappointed that we were too full to finish it! Breakfast the next morning was equally delicious.
We found the hotel was good value for money (although we did book the hotel at a discounted rate of £110 and that made a difference).
We would have no hesitation in recommending it and would stay again.

We stayed at the Hotel Saturday 15th Feb, met up with our friends who we haven’t seen for long while and celebrated her Birthday.
The hotel is lovely, very warm and rich in decor, the staff are a real plus, soooooo friendly and can’t do enough for you. The gentleman at front of house is just the best and deserves a pay rise!!!!. We ate lunch including the fantastic oysters had a few more drinks then checked into our rooms, unfortunately this is where the BUT comes in. We stayed in the Mews 3, initially looked good but as we settled in we both decided that more attention to details was required, decor looking old, tiny outdated TV and mould around bath and some tiles no pen and paper etc, it's really funny as I looked on the web site when I got home and if you look at the picture for Mews 3 you can see the mould!!!.
Now back to the good, we went for our evening meal and I have to say it was one of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of eating for a very long time.
Note to anyone staying or eating, it's not cheap and 4 of us got through £600+ for one night including everything. (Drinks, meals, acccom, breakfast), however we were happy to pay because we had the best time.

Now back to the BUT!!!!. On the Monday all 4 of us fell ill with a nasty bug, we must of caught something at the hotel as we all fell ill at the same time, so can only assume one of the staff had either returned from sickness to early or should have been going off sick, don’t suppose we can really lay blame with the hotel BUT it did spoil the memories of a good time with our friends.

Oh just one last thing, and this is for the owner, and by the way it was a lovely touch that you were doing waitress duties. We did catch hold of him and ask what was good on the menu, he clearly didn’t know what was being served that day, had to look on the menu and read it and then said its all good, we did find that funny, however if you are going to serve food perhaps you should get the chef to give you a menu taster!!!!
We would go back but not to stay unless we could actually see evidence that the rooms had been given some attention.

Steve

This was a last minute booking and what a treat. The staff could not have been any more helpful and inviting and the room was welcoming with a twist of luxury. We took our 2 year old with us and the staff went out of their way to engage with him and make our stay thoroughly enjoyable. The food was delicious and the setting beautiful. I will definitely be going back.

This was a last minute booking for me so i was unsure what to expect and decided to trust the reviews online. In my many years on the road i have stayed in plenty of hotels and this has to be my favourite. Everything from the room to the staff and the food was excellent. It makes a change to see such helpful, happy staff who really could'nt do more to help you. The chef really should be commended the food was exquisite, and with such elegance. I would definitley reccomend this hotel to anyone, no matter what your plans during your stay, and i will definitley be booking again.
